This was the only thing Dad got last night (1 hour hunt)

Only letters I think I can see are;

LGG??IORUM?R and then lots of blanks after & before

Laurel leaf around the V & date

Rev:

Has a crown at the top & looks like blocks under it & unreadable writing around the outside.

Its a hard one that I have never seen before, good luck!

Probably should have mentioned this when posting the pic, but I'm sure you're aware that your own 5 reis, dated 1746, would not be in the Joseph I date range, but rather that of John V. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a photo of the identical coin. However, here's a 10 reis of John V, of the same design, showing the lettering which would appear on the obverse of your coin.
