Got back today to the field with the dirt roads where I found the 1877 Seated Quarter yesterday. Hit a promosing area off the roads, where I was hitting some 19th century junk, but the growth was too thick so I moved back onto the dirt road. I was passing a spot where I haphazardly hunted yesterday, but I slowed down a bit and was more methodical when I got a strong, but iffy, midrange shallow signal. Thinking maybe I had a flat button or some other incidental piece of 19th century metal, I was once again pleasantly surprised that the target turned out to be a coin and it was a King George II copper! As soon as I dug it, I knew I had a George II, but it was too dirty and corroded to tell if the date was visible. It wasn't till I got it home tonight and cleaned it in hot peroxide (and a light brillo cleaning) that I was able to clearly read the date. Needless to say, I was pretty psyched. Also found some buttons, relics, a badly corroded Shield Nickel (1866-1883), and a 1984 clad quarter, that reminded me not too get my hopes up too high on those quarter signals.

Nice copper bookfisher. Great condition, especially the back of the coin. I wonder what other treasures that road is holding?

The beauty of another colonial copper being posted. :) Congrats, waiting to see a few more before you are done there.

Not sure if anyone ever noticed but KGII coppers in general are usually found in much better condition thatn KGIII, and the reason is simple. A very high percentage of KGII coppers are Regal, meaning thicker, proper copper content, which gives them an edge of the KGIII coppers which are over 95% (100% in my survey) counterfeits which is thinner, lightweight and lots of times less pure copper.

Your 1737 is a nice one , lots of detail left!!!

Another super find Bill, that reverse is in sweet shape. In about 6 weeks a lot of growth will have died off and more of the site will be open to detect.
