Got a couple hours free today to go out and detect. So I headed out to a spot that I just recently discovered. I only had 2 hours to hunt so I basically had to jog to the spot, it usually takes a solid 20 minutes to walk. So i get there out of breath and start swinging. IN the hour and a half I was there I only dug buttons and one very early colonial copper...I'm thinking this is gonna be a killer spot. I thought the copper was gonna be unidentifiable but when I started cleanin it I immediately noticed KG1's long pointy snout. And on the back I can see the date 1723. I had just recently dug one of these so it was easy to ID. Thanks for lookin.

I bet you'll get your old military button before I get one of those coppers.

Good find...I've found one in almost as bad condition...they don't hold up very well.

You know how I"m dyin for an early militia button! But chances are you'll find the early copper before I find the button, thats just the way it goes for me. I'll dig everything else in the world except the thing I desire. :tongue3:

YEah they have some zinc in them I believe. Now I have a matching pair, I wonder if they took the same boat ride from Ireland.

Congrats on #2 Wood's Hibernia copper! I did pass along your information to Dr Mossman and happy to say he is now up to 192 reported ground found. You are so correct about the zinc content being the enemy for us in finding them in decent shape, but every now and then a nice one does show up, so maybe #3 will be a beaut!

3rd times a charm! And BTW just curious, how many of these coins were sent to the colonies?

There is no record or any being shipped over to the Colonies, that they must have just arrived by person to person transfer (Pocket Change so to speak). However, it is possible, but not recorded that some shipments did arrive in the Colonies much later in the century, but no proof. I believe one of the main reasons for his survey is to determine how widespread the Wood's coppers were by gathering data on ground founds.

Sniffy strikes again! :notworthy: Hit that site for all of its worth! :headbang:

:o A second Wood's . ;D That must be a record # . :icon_scratch: :read2: Quite a few buttons before a coin turns up. Seems to work out that way , for colonial sites.

I'm gonna spend a whole day there eventually....I hope it produces more. It's weird sometimes you get awesome results the 1st time you go to a new site, and then the 2nd time around there seems to be nothin. I hope to find some more KG's there. ;D

I never imagined I'd find another Hybernia. It took awhile for it to sink in.
