Yesterday we went back to the early french site that hasnt been producing much and had a great day. We have had a ton of rain recently and the site lit up like crazy. I did change my DEUS settings up a little which might have helped too. I ran 18K all day and upped my reactivity to 3. I ended up with 3 French Colonial Buttons, 2 Cannonballs, and my First Colonie Francoises copper coin. Im so excited about this Copper, ive been wanting one of these for a long time. It has some blue green on it that i cant get off, id love to hear some suggestions how to remove this without damaging the coin. From what ive read in the red book the 1721 is the rarest variety. My buddy scored a couple buttons and a nice Silver cob. I think its a 1 real, which is the first to come from this site, and the tenth silver cob weve dug here. I was bummed he got the cob, until i got home and realized i finally dug my Francois. Now im a happy camper. Anyhow im going to wrap this up for now, because were about to go back there right now. Id love to hear more about the rarity and cleaning advice on the Francois. I also think i might have dug a watch/clock winder. It is the wingnut with a shaft looking item, and has a hollow opening in the end. Thanks EDIT: We didnt find much today. I dug another small button, a few musket balls, and a few interesting pieces of brass. Maybe the ground dried out a bit, maybe we were tired from yesterday, or maybe we cleaned it out yesterday. At 2:30 we gave up and went for the local bar. I decided to add a couple pics of the 1890s home that is sitting on the site, a couple pics of my buddies cob from yesterday, and a couple more pics of my french copper. I will post more pics of todays finds in a new thread tomorrow night when i have time.

That is a good find, and had it been a bit better, banner worthy... bit still very good as is! It's definitely a lot more scarce than the H mint mark, and I sold one quite a few years back that was in rougher shape and there was a bidding war over it. Definitely way better than your typical French Colonial copper.

I continue to be amazed by the tiny amount I know about coins . Thats another one I have never seen or heard of . Congratulations

Nice.

Yep, going back to a beaten site after a heavy rain works well esp with the Deus.

Something new I have been trying in the machine gun iron beds; running -1 silencer (3 reactivity) with disc on 3-5. It's letting some of the smaller items ring up enough to dig. Works even better after a nice rain.

Really nice coin. Personally speaking, I like the blue/green on the coin. Gives it some character.

Great coin you got.....if it were me I'd probably leave it as is and not clean it.

Regards + HH

Thanks IP. I was hoping you would comment. I was surprised when i saw i had the rarest variety. This sucker is in better shape than my other french coppers. I would have been happy with a 1722 H, but the 1721 B made it even better. Ive been wanting a Francois for a long time. I didnt think i was ever going to dig one. Im not going to sell it, but would love to know what it might be worth.

We have been to this site over 15 times. Im not sure what happened yesterday. It was like virgin ground. Only things i can think is all the rains we have been having lately, and to top it off it rained part of the day and the night before we went. Its on a hill so we only went because we knew it would be dry, as alot of our other sites hold water. I did run 18K instead of 12 or 8K, and i ran 3 reactivity instead of my normal 2. I always run -1 silencer and 0 Disc. I really think the rains and water saturation is what helped. My pard, old one cob, even dug his #2 with the garrett AT Gold yest. Thanks for responding.

Woweee. Nice hunt man. That 1721 is quite fine. I love it and hope to find one some day. Big congrats

Congrats on a beautiful colonial copper

Amazing condition on that french copper, I found one last year sadly mine is a bit roached but it is identifiable, great hunt!

Nice to see your work again. I love to see stuff like that that I know nothing about, gets me excited to learn more...great history.

Cheers,
Ken

That house looks like its been added on a few times and must have some decent square footage

Always nice when you can run wide open on a site like that. I found 5 Spanish cobs & pieces w/ my Deus on a site that was well searched, at least a dozen times. But it was wetter than ever & I feel certain all that rain was part of the success.
