1715 Beach Report

Cob report:
Well, Im on a 5 day metal detecting vacation on the 1715 Fleet beaches. Spent the day at the cabin wreck right in front of Kips Cabin, give or take 1000 feet each way. Not one cob found at all even at super low tide. Will be hitting it again tomorrow and maybe Rio Mar beach. Will give another report. Lots of pull tabs though, even at shoreline.

2nd Day excursion to the beach brought us to TurtleTrail entrance which was surprisingly open this time around. Last time I was here a month ago, the gate was still closed. It saved us quite a walk from the Wabasso entrance. Anyway, we searched the beach about 1000 feet north and south of Corrigans wreck and found absolutely nothing. Just an occasional pull tab. Looks like piles of new sand in mounds here and there but you can see where the older darker yellower sand is and where the newer whiter sand was layed down. At this site it looks like the hurricane took a nice 6 foot or more cut off the beach right up to the small palm trees whose roots are exposed. The books are out of date cause I no longer see any A thru H markers. It is depressing finding nothing. Will try RioMar wreck area tomorrow and if nothing Ill call it a day and do some siteseeing. Anyway, I hope this report helps those that havent visited the area.

Re: 1715 Beach Report -3rd day out.

Two pictures of Rio Mar wreck area. 1st one is taken from top of beach walkover looking to the right. Thats my son in the picture. You can see the tops of one of the reefs. Second shot is also looking to the left of the beach walkover. Just at the point where the limb of the bush on the right is in line with sand is where there is a 75 foot section of beach that juts out with a reef about 20 feet from shore. The wreck is in line with that about 900 feet offshore.
Report on my 3rd Day goes as follows. Went to Rio Mar area at super low tide. The first reef was sticking high out of the water. Anyway, there was a nice size extension to the beach right in front of the first reef. I assume because the reef was there and maybe 20 feet from shore that it caused less beach errosion on that spot and so the beach had an area maybe 75 feet in length that stuck out further than the rest of the beach. Anyway, I searched this area more than other but, to no avail. I found nothing at Rio Mar wrecksite. I did speak to a scuba diver that came out of the water who said the wreck site looked quite nice. There doesnt look to be as much beach renourishment here. One can see the two different colored sands where the old yellow darker colored sand meets the new light colored sand. I did find $ 1.05 in change under the destroyed beach entrance stairs that is now in the middle of the beach just between the two hurricane destroyed hotels. But, Not one cob. All I wanted was to find just one. But, "Todays Not the Day!". Went to the Mel Fisher museum in the afternoon. Nice stuff.
Will be hitting Ambersand beach entrance tomorrow for my last day here. I figure this time, instead of going left from the entrance to the Cabin site, Ill turn right and walk the distance to Wabasso and see if anything pops up. Oh well, sorry for the bad report. It does not look promising at all until a good chunk of that new sand gets erroded from a storm or two.

Okay, one is of Rio Mar parking lot. I popped it up for all to see cause there are only like 5 parking spots. 2nd shot is looking out from beach walkover. My son is detecting way off in distance. 3rd shot is off topic but I figured its worthy. Shot of space schuttle taking off from the backyard fence of a Malverne beach resort we ducked into 4 minutes before schuttle launch. Good collecting. Hope you all have better luck than me.

Yea looks like he does, but it will still work the same, i used to have my coil like that till i found i liked it better the other way, but it still preforms the same

Great Pic Stillhuntin. I would love to have heard you found a cob but it sounds like a great trip none the less. Excellent shot of the shuttle too. I have been talking to surfrat and we are going to possibly try a run up to the area at Ormond Beach and then head north towards St. Augustine. Also we may plan one starting south at Ft Pierce and head north from there a bit. Remember the beaches you have hit are the most popular because they have found the most wrecks and treasures on shore there but the whole coast for almost 250 miles is littered with these objects and even further south to Hillsboro and the areas around fort lauderdale have given up a reale or two in the day and Cobs. Thanks again on a great report. By the way what type of machines do you and our son use. HH

It is a one story building, last time I saw it, (2 months ago) painted green with a white roof. Below is a picture of me in front of the Cabin. The pictures you took all look great however!

It is a one story building, last time I saw it, (2 months ago) painted green with a white roof. Below is a picture of me in front of the Cabin. The pictures you took all look great however!

You are probably right about this given your more experience. Funny that you mention the white roof. Thats exactly what someone said to me when I asked which one was the former Kips Cabin. He pointed and yelled out "Its the one with the white roof". That was the only one I saw with a white roof so I assumed it was the one. Apparently, I had the wrong one. Now I wonder which one was the right one.

Hello Sultan,
The metal detector we were using was an ancient Whites 6000Di. I purchased it I believe around 1982, 83, or 84 If I remember correctly. The detector did well for me back then in that it paid for itself in 2 days with a nice diamond ring and pillar dollar. Havent had that many good finds since. I havent detected in years and just got back into it cause I wanted my son to experience the fun. Now its time to go out and buy a nice solid detector that will get the job done with newer technology. Any ideas of what is best for shore detecting along florida beaches? Maybe something that is waterproof or that I can at least put in the surf on beaches other than the 1715 beaches.
I should have thought better after seeing the beach renourishment and moved to other beaches that dont have rights to the water offshore.
