1700's Silver Stock Clasp

I had posted this in the "What is it" forum a while back but I cannot find the post. I found this tiny item back in the early Fall and if I remember correctly ColonialDude had said it reminded him of a neck stock clasp that he found. At the time I did not think much of it, but now I am convinced it is a stock clasp and I am wondering what the use of such a small stock clasp could have been used for. Another type of garment perhaps?

Here are some other ones I see online

Needless to say that these would not be enough to secure a leather stock, but were there linen stocks?

I have a neck stock that size as well...they are usually quite small. Nice find!!

The top part is really reminding me of a piece of brass I dug this year, which is quite a bit bigger. I'll have to dig it out to compare, but a lot is right with yours to be part of a neck stock clasp. Can't really imagine anything else it would be.

Re: 1700's Silver Stock Clasp

After some input from Don in SJ and looking at dozens of examples of stock clasps online, I am convinced that my find is a stock clasp. Perhaps it was used for a silk neck stock, or maybe the stock was used for a child's special occasion.

Based on Don's input this may date a bit later than I originally thought, perhaps as late as the early 1800's.

This tiny bit of silver is more testimony as to the ability of the V3. It was more than 8 inches deep and sounded off relatively clear for a small target at that depth. At the time I was using the Eclipse 950 coil.

I wasn't paying enough attention to the pic.... that is tiny! I have more doubt now unless you can find some this small. It does look like some form of clasp. I've been talking to someone who would probably know, and I'll run it by him.

Told it looks like an early wallet/pocketbook clasp. Once I realized the size I didn't think it was off a neck stock buckle. But it's still a silver clasp from the Colonial era so still a good find.

I guess at that size a book clasp makes more sense
