1700's Knee Buckle among First finds 2007 in Northern Vermont (Honest)
I can't believe that I am able to detect up here in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont in January. The ground today was not frozen at all and the temp was a balmy 40 degrees. All of the old timers up here say they have never seen a winter like this. Well, I am going to take advantage of it. Went out to two places that I have detected before. An old cellar hole from a late 1700's house and the hops field behind our property. Took my DFX with my new Excelerator coil, which is working out really well. I was finding half inch buttons at 10 inches and one on its side at 11 inches.
The old cellar hole gave up a neat, complete, knee buckle from the late 1700's and a couple of buttons including the small one with the four holes in it on the top right of the picture. It says Stearns Ellis & Co. Waterbury and dates from the 1840's Also found a beat up harness buckle protector.
At the hops field I also found a button and a very cool heart shaped pendant that has been made out of some kind of pewter medal. On the front is a image a a woman sitting down. On the bottom right of the woman I can make out the word "Society" The reverse has a couple of olive branches on the bottom and some larger writing that I can not make out. I must have been made for someone as a love gift. If you have any idea what it was made from, I would love to hear about it.
I also found a number of larger iron objects including a couple of ox shoes. Thanks for looking. Lance
