1700's hunt - must have lots and lots of patience!

well I got to that 1700's property on Sat. and it is one frustrating place to hunt. The grounds are overgrown with all kinds of plants, weeds, etc. The ground has pieces of coal and coal ashes that were dumped decades ago - all over the main hunting areas. Of course, iron nails are as common as pulltabs in parks dating back before they were replaced by new design on cans. It is quite a challenge to hunt a place like this. If you don't have lots of time and lots of patience - you can forget it! A weed wacker is all fine and well but a brush hog may be in order. *L*

Here is a small sampling of what is in the ground that I dug. I threw a couple Am. Indian relic wanna-bees for a laugh. The stone at 10:00 to the candle holder is coal. I was exhausted when done, and my back/shoulder left me know - I had not swung my EX II in quite awhile. But I'm feeling fine today. My next trip will probably be devoted to clearing a cellar hole that's fairly large. Still it was good to dig the dirt again. HH!

The rewards of hard work will pay off. :hello:

thanks! This one not giving anything up easy but there's got to be more there than iron nails. *L* It has a potential for a very decent payoff. Gold, silver, and the dreams that send you back for another day of hard work that may produce nothing more than good exercise. *L*

There was one interesting and unusual thing. And outdoor hearth of bricks with a complete structure built around it. I popped my upper body through the hearth opening and looked inside. There in the left corner was the outline of a rectangular box (12" X 8") that had been removed. What was in the box? Was it valuables? What a unique place to hide valuables! Who the hell would ever look in a brick hearth? I would but either the person who put it there had removed it or somebody beat me to that box. We'll never know and such are the enigmas of TH'ing! dang! *L*
