I was detecting a late 1700's to current home and found this where an old barn used to stand. It looks butchered but looks like it was attached to something from the shank type on the back. Can anyone give me an idea of what or how old this thing might be? It has been puzzling me ever since it came out of the ground and took its first breath of fresh air. It is non magnetic and possibly brass

That is what other people are telling me. I was told 1700s from the size and uneven loop at the top. Is there any truth to that? Man I can never find a full one that rings and want one so bad!

Yeah i think so as well, and it was probably a big one at that.

I also think it's the top of a bell, just not a crotal bell. It looks like it's from a larger pewter/tombac bell that would be similar in shape to this picture. (was the first I seen to make my point)

The only thing is if you look at the last picture it has that classic "circle", half of one anyway, found on the round bells.

It is the top of a bell, found one similar earlier this summer
