I hit the town woods early this morning for a two-hour hunt before church. According to the 1870s maps, there used to be a house here, though I don't know how long it had been there or when it disappeared. I was hitting nothing but old flat buttons, and was really hoping for silver or a large copper. I was almost done when I got a really nice coin hit. I thought for sure I finally had old silver, and was chanting "please be capped bust," as I dug my plug.. It was not to be, though I lucked upon a small hunter's spill, I think. There was a 1940 and 1944 Mercury, a Jefferson nickel, and a Lincoln cent. The Lincoln cent is actually a memorial coin, so I think a hunter might have dropped these coins between 1959 and 1964. Really wished the coins were older, but I'm pretty happy with these finds regardless. Happy Hunting.
