1700's button or a weight????

I dug this today at a colonial site. My first feeling was a button , but then I saw a pic of a 1700's wooden steelyard weight. What do Ya think? image.jpgimage.jpgActually the site area dates back to 1630

I'm with Charlie. It looks like a shoe button to me.

You kidding me, this is the oldest US found button I have seen posted. Its British Tudor period & dates to 1500-1600! Sleave button.
