1694 William & Mary Half Pence, Silver, & Soldier

I got a lot of swinging in today,
hope to do the same tomorrow.
Started at a new boatyard, seems promising, getting large copper ship spikes,
& lead slugs (thought one was my first Spanish silver)
I DID get a heavy old silver spoon 1.2 troy oz :hello2:
lots of iron on top, this site needs some clearing out.
spent some time at the mill pond, got a tiny lead soldier, looks like he's in Revolutionary Uniform.(or maybe a policeman)
Stopped by my sisters house, searched the rock walls around there,
got a nice '53 Large Cent a while back,
found a William & Mary halfpence from the 1690s ???
Good Day & HH to All!

Re: 8am-3pm at 3 sites, Silver & 1600s Copper

Great finds...anything from the 1600s is worth the time and effort!

Re: 8am-3pm at 3 sites, Silver & 1600s Copper

Great digs Herbie. I got a William and Mary myself this summer. Mine was 1693. Good luck tomorrow Herbie. :icon_thumright:

Re: 8am-3pm at 3 sites, Silver & 1690s British Copper

Thanks to all for your replies.
dug that coin under a rock wall, had an iron nail nearby, I almost didn't go there.
when the coin did surface,
light was fading, and I was pretty sure it was gonna be a blank planchet,
Kept it on the seat beside me on the 45 minute ride home hoping.
gave it a rinse, saw the 'et maria', plugged it into the searchbox, & Whoa!
little happy dance, my earliest coin find yet.
reverse is smooth, can see Britannias arm & knee with a pencil rub.
No date, but I am very pleased regardless.
here's a pic after peroxide & oil, & an image for comparison.
Good day & Great Digs to all!

Re: 8am-3pm at 3 sites, Silver & 1690s British Copper

Glad to see a W&M British Halfpenny with the lettering on the right side there, usually most of the William coppers wear first on the right side for some reason. Oh, since it is copper, you see Brittania on the reverse, and it is not a Irish W&M, your date is 1694.

Re: 8am-3pm at 3 sites, Silver & 1690s British Copper

Well, now you have me thinking.
nothing visible to the eye on coins reverse.
here is the rub I made, rotated both ways.
Is it Brittania, or the Harp?, or crust :laughing9:

Re: 8am-3pm at 3 sites, Silver & 1690s British Copper

Now that I see it Herbie, yours is a bit different then mine. Mine was the Irish version. It had a harp on the back and the date was at the top. Glad you could get enough detail for an ID. It will look good in your display case. :icon_thumright:
