Coin is about half a gram underweight, but the pitting could contribute to that. But some of the details seem wrong like the position of the second O in CAROLO or the spacing of the date. If anyone is an expert on old British coppers it would be good to know if this is a fake or an authentic one. I have heard this type had lots of contemporary fakes.

It looks good to me :icon_thumright: I haven't heard of any contemporary counterfeits of the Charles II farthings. It wouldn't surprise me but I think they would be rare (and probably quite collectible too).

Thanks, I did see mention of counterfeits but didn't really see examples of any online, so perhaps they are rare. Good to know this is likely just a variety and not a counterfeit.

look under the catagory "evasion token". copper tokens that emulated coinage were not illegal in the day and were needed for the everyday man.
