1657 Spanish Cob

Evening water hunt finds cob #20 all time for me. Looks like a 1657 Potosi 1 real. Also got an unusual stud chape with a two prong spike. I thought stud chapes were only pre 1720ish and two prong spikes were later. Maybe Ive got a transitional example but my book doesn’t mention them

Sorry I forgot to mention its part of an early buckle like the one in top right of this pic but mine has 2 prongs vs the standard 1 like in the pic

Twenty cobs is impressive. It's also encouraging to know that 16 of the 20 came from just two sites. Such figures offer motivation for finding new sites with similar offerings. When you've pulled 20 cobs, your recovery of a Pine Tree shilling well outside its expected area of circulation is easier to comprehend but no less amazing. Keep on it! Who knows? With the quantity you've pulled, perhaps a Spanish gold escudo is in your future.
