Appears to be a French minted coin from from 'New France'. Maybe someone from Quebec was visiting Massachusetts and had a hole in their pocket. Neat find !!

It is a Louis XIV French Liard, the coins did circulate in the colonies, my son has found a couple and I am hoping I found one this past week. Is this a ground find? If so, congrats, since the coin shows quite a bit of detail compared to the ones my son has.

If you get a chance could you measure it, should be around 22mm in diameter, weight also if you can.

The obverse legend would read: LXIIII ROY DE FR ET DE NA (date)
The reverse would read: Liard de France (mintmark letter). In this case, the mintmark appears (to me) as a "D", signifying Vimy, France.
An interesting site for this type of coin is found here:

Thanks Don, it weighs 3.0 grams, without a ruler handy, it is just larger than a u.s. nickel, but only half the thickness. it was found in Mass. by a friend of mine. thanks to all!! :) if anyone's interested, this may be on Ebay soon.

Good one. I have found quite a few but only two that didn't go in the crusty box.

There's very little dollar value to that coin, if any.
