At The same estate sale as the platinum necklace, I spied these serving trays. They were marked "Silver". I asked the estate sale operator and he said he "thought" they were plated. He then added that the owners were Indian and that these were wedding presents. I immediately recognized that India did not adopt a silver marking policy until 2005 and that in Indian culture you give dowry gifts of gold and silver. Everything looked right so I took a chance. My acid is too old but it passed. It also passed the ice test. I'm getting a second opinion but am quite confident it is at least .800 silver. I even dug down with a blade on one of the legs and nothing but silver. Paid $111 for all of these. At worst they are great serving trays I can resell. Best $3300 in silver. What do you all think of the marks? FYI ...each pieces weighed 3LBS, 2.5LBS or 1.75LBS. I thought that was unusual too. Almost like they were sold for weight.

From my experiences being Mark silver is usually silver. I have a set of spoons that are marks over as well I scratched him down as far is just about gone through them and they're still testing for silver. And they seem to test pretty high with the acid kit like a bright blue white color. I am thinking it might be pure silver like 999. Here's a picture of mark that my spoons are. I'm sure others will chime in. But that's a crazy score right there if those things are real. That's in same awesome job!!!

All my acid testing equipment responds white/light blue if its not silver. Most acids will turn dark red for silver .925 and higher, redbrown for .70 and brown for .40

The acid came in at a dark red to red brown color. My bet is 800 or 830.

mega silver score. just think what they got in gold for the dowry. you might get 5k for everything, I know the large silver trays sell well

I thought the bottom two that are clean were cracked and scratched up until I realized they were reflections of a cabinet door.

JD,

That's a beauty of a score right there.

Given that estate company didn't do a very good job at testing those items....I'd be hitting all their sales if I were you.

Wow...amazing...congrats! Hit every sale they run. Really curious how the family let these slip through.

Me too. The estate sale guy even said he "thought" they were plated. And when I told him I was going to take him he said "oh so you going to take a chance on them." It sounded like he never checked them and just made an assumption I guess because they were so thick and heavy.

Bahahahahahahah those polished up look so amazing and nice. That would be an absolute dream find and would give anything for a chance like that at super easy money. Nothing to lose for them, they set the price, knowledge is power!

Holy crap!! That's amazing! That's a find of a lifetime if I've ever seen one. It's always a great feeling when you know you were at the right place at the right time. Congrats to you JD!!
