I was hunting around a very old church Monday and came up with a Gold Wedding Band that is stamped 16 inside... does this mean it is 16kt. gold?? I have never heard of that before.... The size a standard 7 and it is decently wide.... It was about 8 inches down or so..... The church has been closed for nearly 50 years.... I do not have a pic of it yet.... waiting to post the entire days finds..... but about a foot over from the ring hole... I pulled out an 1868 IH..... so you know this place is old..... any ideas or help? I thought this would be cheaper than taking it to my local jewelry store which is 30 mins away.... gas is too high to waste it NOT hunting coins LOL

lol you have a point there Minton! Gas is the new "gold" ;) I am sure someone will be able to answer your question.....I have never heard of 16k gold either but that sure doesn't mean someone else might not! Good luck with finding your answer and so looking forward to the pictures!

Never seen it but a careless stamp of an 8 could be a 6, which would be the 18K we all are looking for ;)

Well I finally got with my local jeweler buddy who happens to metal detect also..... I called him since he is 30 mile from me and no sense wasting good $$ on driving there and not detecting.... he says that 16 kt. would usually be dental gold.... but could be a rare old gold combo... he said it is also possible about the "soft" 8 stamp...... or it could be forgeign.... but usually they have decimal markings.... We both feel it is very old, but he said he could tell me more when I actually bring it into him.... he was excited about it like I am LOL I will post more whenever I find out
