Hi all,
mostly posting this because 150 years ago today was the Battle of Fort Sumter.
The start of the war between the states.
http://www.thestate.com/2011/04/12/1775517/remembering-the-first-shots-of.html
got a small dandy & handpunched lead button, toasted largie, & a 35 mm token/ medal that has some visible edge lettering and a 10 near the center, probably never get any more detail, but i'm trying :laughing7:
Found a new foundation & small well out in the woods.
Best digs to All

Very interesting finds Herbie! :notworthy:
Sounds like the "new foundation & small well out in the woods"
you recently found might hold some promise! :icon_thumright:

This is one heck of a large bullet! :o
How old do you think it might be? :icon_scratch:

The two pieces above the nails, that are the same...Do you know what they may be...I found 1 of those a few weeks ago...I thought bicycle chain links or chainsaw links?

I still smell the powder burning Herbie. Like the finds and I feel you are on to something there Bud. HH, Quindy.

I think they look like they might be links to a chainsaw chain as well? :icon_scratch:

Hi Dave, it is a 45-70 with a 98 stamp. have found dozens of these rounds at this site, used in the Indian and Spanish wars maybe 1880- 1905.
This area also has hundreds of .45 acp rounds, .50 cals, and the .23s shown below.
So much ammo found in this small area, must have had a munition supply boat at the old dock of which buried pilings remain.
I believe all this ammo is from the same era.
yesterday, I got another 45-70, two jacketed rounds of about .42, the smaller round, about .23, and a baby brother hotchkiss HE autocannon round of 26 mm.
see the 40 mm found previously here :o : With animation of the weapon in operation.

I haven't had to undo a garter belt in at least 20 years!
Or at least since my wedding night! :laughing7:
