15 degrees outside? 8 inches of snow today? Low tide at 10:30 pm? Bring it on.

Hey folks,

It snowed a boat load here in the Seattle area over the last day. I’m pretty bummed because I finally have time to visit some productive sites from last month but now they’re all buried.

I was racking my brain and realized that the beach would still be huntable. The tides are all screwy right now so there’s really only one low tide per day and it’s late in the evening (10:30 pm today). I figured, what the hell. This might be my only chance to detect this week.

I hit the beach by headlamp and did alright. I managed to pull in a 35 buff and a 54-D Wheat. Nothing that’s going to make banner but it felt good just to get out and find a couple oldies.

Excuse me while I hop under the comforter and reacquaint myself with how toes are supposed to feel.

Happy hunting all!

Nice!!!! Better than I’ve done since ole man winter has sat his frozen fat ass over us here in New England

Washingtonian you are truly amazing. No idea how you guys do it, but you do. Dedication, obsession, crazy who knows, but you get the job done. Congratulations on a successful hunt.

Jealous you can still get out there, would need and ice pick or an augur, if one were nuts enough to get out this week in the Dakotas! The Glacial lakes region takes on a whole new meaning when it’s in the negatives.

Congrats on getting out brother. You are a hardy fellow to hunt in the cold!

Nice finds! Swinging in the snow? You're nuts! lol. Can't wait for the spring!

But you did get out! Five Januarys' ago, 2014, me and one other soul dared Coin Beach in Delaware when it was 32 and had a 20 mph wind, snow squalls blowing everything sideways! I did great! Got three copper coins from the Faithful Steward wreck, an infant's silver ring, 18th century, the child must have died in the wreck, and probably 20 other pcs of other 18th century wreck items!

Nice finds. I'd like to be out, but we have no beaches by me, and the ground is frozen solid. Cold temps don't bother me, but I'm not about to go out there with a pick ax to break the ground, (which I did use to do in my younger days) !

The "good" beach is 150 miles from here. But not today, still sore from the weekend.

I'll bet if any folks had seen you swinging up the beach, they would've most likely said "Look, the Iceman Cometh". Nice hunt. Your perseverance paid off.

That's a success in my book. I went detecting in the woods (northeast) this weekend. The ground was so frozen that I could not even break through it most of the time. Found a few ox shoes. Over all it was not a success but sometimes it feels good to try!

Way to tough it out and make the rest of look like slackers :laughing7: I love Buffs!

Nice job on the old coin shooting! :icon_thumleft:

Welcome to my world Michigan lol

That’s great. Been there a long time. Good job in rough weather.

Yes it was a lot of snow. Well I wasn't the only crazy one, I went out as well to bad we did not meet up. I'll post my find in a day or two. Congratulations on you finds.

Very cool! What part of the state are you in? I do most of my hunting in either the Greater Seattle Area or Island County.
