I bought this ring awhile ago for 5 bucks, it says "14k" on it, but when i took it to the jewelry store they said it was not gold and most likely brass. Any ideas why it would say 14k and be brass or how old it is? As you can see it is amde with great quality, even the back is open to let light hit the stone. What is the stone though?

I would get a second opinion, I have never heard of 14k brass and that stone obviously isn't 14K in size. Doesn't look like gold, but that doesn't make much sense unless it was a brass ring sold to fool someone

Well i saw the guy at the store test it, so its fake. But i think maybe it was made to look gold to fool someone. It doesnt really look lie brass, maybe its a different alloy.

millions of pieces of costum jewlry are made all the time, see where id's on a metered machine, I've seen gold come up in many shades of color
including like what you have, only a poorer grade of gold, but if its real gold content then it should read low, on a meter, if brass it will read like a zink penny or better
