12/30/07 Daytona Gives Up 2 Silver & Gold (?) And Hopefully A Little '08 Karma
I decided to get in one more beach hunt for the year, all my hunting partners were either out of town, on-call, or had family chores to do so I headed to Dayton Beach by myself again.
I was determined to find a ring to close out 2007, it has been slim pickings lately for me jewelry wise. My last good ring find was the 1/2 ct 14 K diamond ring and that has been over 3 months. The hunt started off slow, but I was enjoying being on the beach hunting again so no big deal. I moved father down the beach and the targets started coming.
As I was walking a couple down from up north on vacation came up to me, told me their 10 year old son had lost the silver ring his mother just gave him for Christmas. I asked them where they thought he lost it and they showed me, I hunted the area hard, but no ring so I gave up and moved on down the beach hunting, and took a nice hit, I thought it was the boy's ring , but up came the big silver ring. It says Mexico925 on the inside. It was black as night with tarnish, but the baking soda and aluminum foil trick cleaned it right up.
I moved farther down the beach and about 20 mins later I took another loud hit, it was a small silver ring and on the inside it says "Dalton all my love always Mom". I signaled the father who was down the beach and he walked over, I asked what the engraving was on their son's ring and he said "Dalton love mom". I told him it was close enough and showed him the ring. He could not believe I had found it and it was at least 40-50 yards from where they told me he lost it.
The father told me they paid $35 for the ring and offered to give me that much for finding it, but I refused, and said I couldn't take the money, as it was a Christmas gift from a mother to a son. I told them if they can remember to post a picture here when they get home that would be nice, but since they had no pens in the truck I doubt they will remember the addy to get it posted, BUT it still counts as a ring find so my total was 2 silver rings so far.
I told myself I wasn't going home till I found a gold ring, I worked the beach hard another hour, till it was dark-thirty, and it is not a lighted section of the beach. Since I was by myself on a fairly deserted stretch of beach when I found the double loop gold earring, I told myself it was close enough, earring contains the word ring. .
Part of the earring is broke where it latches, I thought I did it with my scoop, but could not find it, a magnet will not stick to it, it is solid gold color where it broke and heavy, but no clue what KT or any way to test it to prove it is or isn't as I have no acid for gold....
I also found a Dollar Canadian Coin......About $1.75 in clad, a ladies prescription glasses, and a hotweel car cut in half.......
