12/21/06 Detecting

Paco and I got out to one of his research spots. I used my shooter DD because I knew this area was going to be trashy. We both had a day of fun that was filled with copious amounts of joking and laughter.

My finds:
- 1912 Dog Tax tag @ 5" - my 1st
- 1918 Dog Tag License @ 3"
- 1892 Indian Head @ 4" - 53rd of the year
- 1919 Wheatie @ 5.5" - in the same hole with a square nail

Paco's finds with his 6 X 10 DD:
- 4 Wheaties

Can anyone give me some information on what a Dog Tax tag is? What was it used for?

Dog Tax is the Early Phrase for Dog License.

It was eventually changed to "License" because
people don't like the word "Tax"

there was a lot of rabies ( mad dogs ) in the early years so county's had a dog police man to go around and make sure your dogs had the rabies shots
the tax paid for the dog police

i was going to say that those dog tags are very collectable and that one is a beauty. i had a feeling it may be worth a few bucks and pbk has verified it. great find.

I also found this dog tag today. It read a 40 VDI and was at a depth of 3". It took me awhile to recover it because it was under some large roots.
