Found this today, a heart shaped ring stamped 10k. Not the most valuable of finds, but it's one of my first, if not my first, gold spots. I believe it's mixed in with silver. It appears to have five stones, assuming diamonds, within the design of the ring.

Anyone know what the marking means?

Well, 10k means 10k gold. So I don't expect this to be mixed with any other metal. The other mark is too obscured in your picture to read. I doubt it's anything other than the manufacturer's mark, ie the hall mark. Nice find.

That's a nice score. It's 10k white gold. A great way to start the year!

Actually it is mixed with other metals. 10K is 10 parts gold and 14 parts other metals. Most the time silver. Rose gold copper. Hope you got it for a great price.

I paid 13 bucks for it, so not too bad. Not too worried on the marking either; I go for metal and gem price before brand marks.

Nice buy. 10kt is worth about $17 per gram.

Weighed it myself with my personal hand scale. 1.92 grams = weight of the ring. Probably could list it for 40-50 bucks on ebay.

Found another ring this week, a sterling band with a nice peridot stone on it. Paid 3 bucks for that.

I wouldn't pay that much for a silver ring. Just me. You lost money there unless you can sell it as a ring. Not worth anything close to that in scrap probably.Again you can use the site listed above to see what you have in scrap silver. Sounds like you are having fun at those stores. Hope you find a major buy.

The ring alone is probably not worth 3 bucks, but I do see value in the stone as well. 3 bucks isn't a big investment to me and hopefully I could use the stone for some individual projects alone. It's not a small ring either.

You get like 60 of them and auction them, you can usually do pretty well. If they're all Sterling and especially if there some turquoise in them. you can do pretty well with them if you can get them cheap enough.

I'm going to disagree with everyone on that ring. Trying to buy silver jewelry cheap to scrap is not the way to go. Selling sterling jewelry on eBay for double the melt value (right now, that's right at $1 per gram) works reasonably well on unbranded, non signed pieces. I have been picking Mexican silver jewelry the past 6 months from a variety of sources, and have sold $1900 worth, while only having spent $800 on it so far. Not the killer picks in Gold many of you get but I just don't ever see the gold out in the wild up north.

You don't see gold in the wild in northern Michigan? You must not water hunt here. I don't try to sell my silver rings from the lakes. Most all are black and I don't attempt to clean them. I probably should try though. I made a HUGE mistake the year before last and scrapped a Pandora bracelet with a bunch of charms. I had NO idea they sold for such high of price. Live and learn.

Religious medals go for a premium and I never scrap them. Maybe I will change the way I do things now. I haven't scrapped silver for two years now. Thanks for the input
