10inch DD OR 13 inch detech Ultimate DD

I've been using both search coils with my V3i and now find myself using the 13" detech more and more. So much in fact, I'm now pulling out deeper keepers in many of the same areas I've hunted with the stock 10" DD coil. I've found it to be very accurate when pin-pointing small, deep targets at 7"+ in depth (three weeks ago, I recovered a nice Barber Dime at 8" with with an iron nail along the way down).

I've also found the 13" to be a bit more stable during EMI conditions (power lines, etc.) plus, it will cover a lot of ground if you have to be home before dinner.

Hope this info was helpful.

10=Boat Anchor 13=wow that is amazingly light for it's size!

Love my detech on the V3i. Doesnt work at all though in corn stubble
Found these last night in one hole using Stock Coin and Jeweler

Surprisingly light! I have a 10" DD excelerator also, it had its uses, a good coil also but thinning the herd

The D2 coil has never produced for me, nor has the 6x10 Eclipse.

I live by my SEF coils in my V3i, which are the 8x6(if God made a better coil, He took it to Heaven with Him), and the 12x10 SEF. The only OEM Whites coil thats a must have???, the 4x6 Shooter.

With the MXT real world in ground depth is pretty equal, the 13" coil covers a lot more ground for big open area's and the 13" coil does hit a bit better when the deep coins are setting on edge. I pounded an old baseball diamond with the 10"DD coil and pulled a lot of 8"+ dimes and a few quarters then went back and found about 3 dimes and a quarter at 10" setting on edge with the 13" coil. The 10"DD hit on them but sounded like deep trash and the 13" coil gave just a little better enough signal to make me dig them, I use the 10" coil most of the time and seems to give a little bit better VDI readings as well. HH

Has anyone else have any insight since Nov 2015 to add? I'm thinking about trying it.

I purchased mine a few months ago and love it. I was using the 10 DD on my VX3 and its def a good coil. If you have plenty of open areas where you live then it's a know brainer. The 13 detech has depth, pinpoints great and covers lots of ground.. God luck

Just ordered a new one today! I will try to remember to report back later.

I ended up getting the 13" coil and it does a really good job on buttons, dimes, small pieces of lead, and small brass. Feels lighter than the 10" too.

To me it seems if your in area's with some trash the d2 coil will pick through some trash a little better but not by much and with the MXT you really got to slow down when your in some trash which is hard for me to do sometimes. The ultimate13 coil is a great coil though and if your in a big open area will cover more ground, which way or the other these coils should cover each other should one of them go bad. I was looking for more depth but out detecting there pretty equal the edge going to the 13 coil for those 10"+ coins sitting on edge as the 13 gives just enough better signal to make me dig. HH

I'm trying to decide right now on either the Max. 15' coil or the Detech Ultimate 13' coil for relic hunting. Congrat's to you on your decision on the Ultimate 13'. Let us know what you think on your new coil.

Im not sure about the Max 15 but Ive been using the Ultimate 13 on my mxt/v3i for the better part of last year and i havent wanted to change it yet. Except in trashy areas i go to the 4x6 DD but usually end up going back to the 13. Great separation, great depth, very light, all in all great coil.

The Detech 7 inch coil is awesome, really accurate VDI, good depth (dime at 9 inches) See picture. The Detect 13 inch is my next purchase. Great input from this thread! Thanks guys, Tt
