The 1870 house that I have been restoring
gave me a few surprises this week.
First, I researched it and found the dwelling
on an 1823 map. The homeowner was very
happy to hear that. But not as happy as me.
Second, with the grass was soooo high, detecting
has not been easy. I mentioned that to the
homeowner. She said that I could cut the grass
if I wanted (nobody lives in the house). I figured,
what the heck. So I took my mower there this
morning and mowed the whole 2 acres.
When I finished the homeowner showed up
and insisted that I take $100 for the mow
job...............I took it.
Finally detecting time, but I only had about
30 minutes to, so off I went. I finally got a horseshoe
file to go with all of my horseshoes. I got a cool old
hog hook. Finally, I got a silver hit and start digging.
Breathing was forgotten for a moment. I dug a handfull
of nails out of the hole, and then, 5 inches down, my
very first mercury, 1936 and in decent shape.
