...my lovely wife Marcia and I were out in our garage today, wading thru the junk, and she ran across this old lead lined fireproof box, she'd had for many years......We brought it in and opened it up, and BAAABY, was I in for a shock: Mixed in with the old photos and papers, was this envelope, holding a Christmas card, that Marcia had received thru the mail from her grandparents, postmarked 1952, she was 1 or 2, at the time......This is a 'card of another sort', because: It has these 'indentations' on the outside, for putting COINSin, and it has 10 indentations, EACH FILLED WITH A PRETTY SILVER DIME, all from that era:7 Mercury dimes, 3 older issue Roosevelt dimes.....The Mercs are dated 1930,1937,1939,1941,1943 and 2-1944 Mercs, and 3 Roosevelt dimes: One 1946, 2-1950......AND, in her baby book in the same box, a nice 1946 Walking Liberty half, taped to the page.......First thing I thought, when she handed me that card, was "1916D!!!!"Merc, but nope, but STILL.......The outside of the envelope has some real nice 'non cancelled' era stamps on it, too. Sorry, the pics are kinda not too good......Anybody else ever seen one of these cards??this is a first for me, I've NEVER seen another one!!!By the way: No ideas as to mint marks: The card itself is pretty fragile, being 56 years old, I'd probably tear the card itself apart, trying to see the mint marks. Wasn't the 1946 Roosevelt dime a transition from Mercury dimes??
