We've had a lot of rain in VA lately, which I knew would help me pick up some good signals. I never dreamed it would turn out to where I felt like a hog in a trough! I got in the woods about 5pm and by 5:15 I hit my first signal which turned out to be a pistol bullet. When I stood back up and swept the area again, I immediately had another signal. From that moment on for 3 straight hours, I never got up off my knees. The place was loaded and it was all within a 10 foot circle. The problem was it was so wet I didn't need a shovel at all. Everytime I hit a signal I would grab a handful of "slop"; usually two handfuls and I'd have my relic. In 3 hours time, I came up with 20 bullets (12 various rifle bullets, 8 pistol bullets), 2 grapeshot, a sash buckle, 3 finials, 2 big back pack strap studs, 1 cuff button, and tons of melted lead. Total was 106 finds in this small area!

Wow!!! Thats awesome. At least you didn't have to walk much. ;D I like the buckle!!

Simply amazing!!!!!! Congrats on the great finds.

AWESOME FINDS............AGAIN!!!!
Sounds like easy "diggin" but I think I might prefer a little more dry dirt!!! Hopefully you will get back out there soon, I'll be happy to go with you and carry the 5-gallon buckets!!! ;D ;D

Now THAT is a good place to search.

And little need to fill your holes :icon_king:

What do you make of that particular area? Was it an overnight camp site or something of a little more time duration? Or maybe a place pickets were stationed?

Your impression of the site would be appreciated.

Thanks for sharing the great finds

Sanat, Thanks for the reply. This was in an area where there were several battles. The area is very thick with undergrowth and difficult to hunt. After digging till dark, I made my way back to my truck half heartedly swinging my machine, I dug 3 more bullets and 3 pieces of melted lead. I hope to find this spot again. I headed on to the truck and hit several more signals which I decided not to dig at that time. I'm hoping to take my brother out there with me in the next few days. So far it looks to be a large campsite. I will post again in a few days and let you know of any new discoveries.

Wow, must have felt really great pulling that stuff out. Congrats! ;D

Unreal, what a hunt!!!

looks like a last stand sorta spot -- the belt buckle is a tip off --shot men or their freinds often tore off their belts or straps off of knap sacks to tie off their bleeding limbs to stop the bleeding -- belt buckles and strap buckles were often lost this way during the process . they were doing it fast and pulling hard cuttin it with a knife even to get the strip of cloth needed to save a life -- the belts & buckles or knap sacks meant nothing at a time like that . now go find the other halve of that buckle its most likely near by -- oh btw --way to go to the max !!!

Muddy detector, muddy shovel and a lot of neat stuff, no doubt, you were workin that site tcooper.

I JUST GOT TO GIVE A SHOUT OUT TO VIRGINIA!!!!!!! iM LIVIN IN HAWAII RITE NOW....... BUT THERE AINT NO PLACE LIKE HOME, I LOVE VIRGINIA....................GOOD JOB ON YOUR FINDS !!!!!!!!!

Thats an incredible haul! You have no doubt found a virgin camp site and that is what we all seek. The melted lead is a dead give away. Cover that area good and slow. There's no telling what you'll uncover but we want to see it all! Congrats!
