I read a post on here last night about where to find stuff on the beach. Sandman posted a link to some very informative info on metal detecting. I scoured the whole site taking in as much as possible and was ready to take my new found knowledge for a test drive.

When I got to the beach this morning, I focused on the water, watching the waves and wind looking for any cuts. It was one hour before low tide so there was a ton of exposed beach.

I was looking for the deep cuts and I saw them. They were crescent shaped and deep. I would be ankle deep step into the cut and be over my waist. They were everywhere and made it hard to walk. I searched them all with my sandshark and my handheld scoop.

Finally I get a good loud signal in the bottom of one of these holes. I step in over my waist, look towards the east to make sure no big waves are coming in. I eyeball the spot, reach down and stick my handheld scoop into the sand and give it a hard kick. I mounted a small piece of wood to the back for this purpose. I look up and towards the east once more to make sure no waves are going to come in and drown me. Coast is clear..... I reach down to get the scoop and from nowhere a nice big wave comes and I am now fully underwater, Now I no my headphones will work in the water :tongue3:, I was curious about that.

As I am fully underwater reaching for my scoop I feel something large and rough rub across my back.........
:o This scared the poo out of me, I dropped my detector and scoop and made for high ground real quick, I think I might have screamed too, I Can't remember :tard: :tard: My headphones now around my neck almost choking me. ( You have to understand, I live in the shark attack capitol of the world so I am a little on edge going deep. Even though most of the bites here are small, I do not want to be in the record books for that )
I looked back and see a massive patch or sargasso weed right where I just was. Feeling stupid I look around to see if anyone is watching. :tard: :tard:
I went back and grabbed my stuff and decided to wait until I get a long handled scoop before I try the deep again. My target was a pulltab!

As I am coming back I am working the water line, I look up and see another detectorist coming my way working the same line. I decide to make a wide path around him and head up towards to high tide line and search. I start at the high tide line and get a faint signal. I dig over 12 inches to find this odd little ring. What makes it odd? It is stamped 925 but between each segment it is gold colored. Each segment also has a small stone. Except for my deep water scare, the beach was beautiful this morning!

Still the best hobby ever In my opinion!

Nice but odd ring but hey silver is good and a ring is a ring. Very funny post. I think I would have polluted the water big time! Thank you for sharing a very interesting hunt.

good story and that is a different looking ring but its a ring

I gotta say that your scare reminded me of mine with the manatee and another scare with a couple of fins (dolphins). You just don't think at first - YOU PANIC! I am so glad you only had a scare and not the "real" thing. To top off your day you found a beautiful ring. WTG You are doing well.

That is a very nice ring! I wonder what to make of it tho, maybe have a jeweler take a look at it.

Keep at it, get a good scoop, and youll do great at water hunting. Patience and persistence is what will pay off in golden, and silver, dividends.

And yes, this hobby rules!

Nice ring.

Now when you high-tailed it out of the water, did you say to yourself "man, I hope nobody saw that."

Just curious.

I've been there. :icon_salut:

That and octopus tenticals.. eeewww. rather grab a sharks tale! shaka Mikey

seaweed is yucky.

I have done the same thing you have. I had a big fish hit me in the back once and I liked to of walked on water.

nice unusual ring, silver is better than nada, can't always get gold. sounds to me like you enjoy the water, but get yourself equipped for it, long handled water scoop, water or beach unit with built in headphones.
