Cast iron , about 2 inches in diameter, hole not in center, notice the bottom edge has a small raised area with small indentation on either side. Dug in an area of an old store , found wagon wheel axle nut and old train coupler pin at same site.
Picture also on other side look as if it fit in something.

I had grinded all the rust off of it , so it didn’t look like this out of the hole.

Could it be off some kind of old conveyor belt as one of many held up by a metal thredding? Something from a factory?

Anyone think that little tab piece on top is to facilitate automatic closing (if this were a lid or something?)

And I guess the combination of "hole + tab" could be used for fitting a matching wrench, but why bother (why not just a slot for a screwdriver)?

There was an old store and possibly a cotton gin, but who knows. This would have been in the later 1800, I also dug up a railroad coupler pin circa 1880.
