Nothing too crazy yesterday, one chain spinner ring (junk) and a super crusty copper pendant. Looked gold when I pulled it from my scoop but after seeing so much patina, figured it was copper. Going back out today!

Nice!!!! Congrats!!!!
Thanks!! Looking at the pendant, it looks like brass but can't confirm. It came out of a dredging pipe where they are dredging at my local beach from the inlet. Can't tell if it's something really old, or just junky.

It's been in the ocean for a long time as there are sand particles fused to the back that refuse to come off, and the corrosion cant be scraped off. Do you have any ideas how to clean this thing up?

Electrolysis will take that crust right off so you can see what you've got.

It looks like a religious pendant to me. I canโ€™t tell for sure. I kind of want to guess Saint Francis, but Iโ€™m not sure why. Cleaning will reveal more detail.

I'll have to give that a shot and DIY a electrolysis set up. I thought it only worked for rust.

Very nice finds - congrats ! :icon_thumright:

And yes, the Pendant looks like a good candidate for a Electrolysis Bath.
Very simple and inexpensive to set up - there's some good Youtube videos on how to build one.

Good Hunting !

Low Karat gold will tarnish up in saltwater so don't give up all hope.

Nice finds That sounds like what's going on at Ft Pierce inlet.

I agree with oldmxrat. Electrolysis would help get the corrosion to let go. Just start off in small increments. 3 minutes, increasing as You feel needed. Too long can cause problems for stuff corroded like that. Good luck!!!

Hagies Welcome to Treasurenet :) Nice ring find .

I tested with a 10k acid test and it ate it up real quick lol. Checked silver too and it ate it up. I'm thinking it's bronze and I'm really hoping it's a pendant carried by a spanish ship that wrecked as they used to carry tons of these bronze pendants to try to convert people.
