Superb find! Contrats!

Just a quick question. Did you guys put dirt back on the Morgan to take a closeup photo? When in the field, it's cleaned off pretty well with only minor dirt left on it, but in the photo it's pretty caked with dirt.

Congrats again!

Yes, your are correct, good eye! Because everything happens so fast when you're in shock, we washed it off in the video before we got a good close up in the plug. Then we put it back in the plug to scan it again with the Etrac and video the tones and numbers. Kinda had to use wet mud to hold it in place. So when we pulled the plug back up the coin was caked again from the mud. I took in home in that condition and took indoor close up pics. If you look at the plug pic closely, you can see where the dirt above the coin is packed back in, but not perfect.

Absolutely stupendous!
That's a find of a lifetime - and right in the open grass of a park?
Looked to be what - 5 or 6 inches down only?
Amazingly cool.
Congratulations!!!

haha, perfectly understandable. That is such a superb find though! Definite kudos and I’m very envious!

I also have an e-trac and was surprised when you went over it in one of the modes and it was sort of blocked out. What setting did you have it on where it picked up very clearly?

Thanks and Congrats again!

Hey again Testing,
Just to clarify, I found the dollar with my DFX. Brett wanted to scan and record it with his Etrac (which i know nothing about) but I think he answers your question about the settings in the video. I could have him Pm you about it.

Regarding the E-Trac nulling on Silver Dollars. This is a well known issue with the default coins program. To fix this, just unmask 1-43 through 1-46. In open air, the morgan dollar reads 1-43 every time, but in the ground it bounces a little from 1-42 to 1-43.

Holy cow, what a paperweight! I can only dream of finding one of those, I'm sure others feel the same way.

Thanks for filming the extraction of the coin from the clod, what a rush. Congratulations on a remarkable coin. Next step: $20 gold coin!

Joe

Wow John! Big congrats!!!

1) An awesome find!
2) Great that you got it on video!
3) I think it should count as 4 silvers in your contest with Brett! :laughing7:

Joe, that's what I always thought, that finding a silver dollar was just a dream. I guess anything's possible.

As far as finding a $20 gold coin next? Let's not be greedy now,,, how 'bout just a double $10 gold coin spill or a Rolex? ;D

Way to go John!
I already heard about this offline from a few different people and had to see what all the commotion was about.
Now I see.... beautiful. Those don't come along very often.
