I had an appointment at the Detroit VA hospital today so I decided to take my gear and try a dive. I also thought I would try something new.

I get out there and go out to the deep muck. This muck is so deep unless there is a belt buckle down there, a half dollar, or a swim tag you don't get a signal anywhere. So I decide to move the muck around and listen to faint targets. Well I got 5 of them. As 1898 Barber quarter, a 1926 SLQ, a junk bracelet, a buckle and a woman's bath tag for the 1st locker.

I am VERY glad I only made one dive. I came home to a box on my porch. BOTH my Fisher CZ-21's with the 8" coils came back from First Texas. Glad no package thieves decided to run off with this one!

I am sure there are dimes and rings way way down in the muck. I can't wait to get back there with my 8" coil. That 10.5 is tiring me out while I am playing.

Well done as usual.

SLQ and barber quarter in one hunt would be a dream come true for me. In 4 years I have found 1 Barber quarter and 2 SLQs.

Best of luck to you sir.

Now your post begs the question..." How does one move the muck around?" I'm guessing with a great deal of effort! You gets points for perseverance!

Like Carolina Tom said- Barber and SLQ quarters in one hunt is pretty amazing. Nice dive!

I was swooping it into another spot with my left hand and arm. TIRING. This muck is like the old white paste we had in school. Only way I can describe it. I couldn't see anything the whole dive except for a few bass fins. I probably moved less than a 10' square bunch of that stuff.

Dredging is illegal here. It sure would be nice to have a water pump I could mount on my boat and blast water at the muck! I am sure I would find a whole lot of great things if I could get my boat out there with a gas powered pump. However, I have already riled the Detroit Police and Wane County Sheriff. I don't think I want to rile up the Michigan State Conservation officers that run Belle Isle or the Michigan State Police. I am sure someone would put the brakes on my adventures.

As much as I love reading about your finds, I am even more in awe of your special skills.

Well I got a new toy yesterday and I just got it working with a sim card today. Everyone is going to be able to see (lol hopefully!) what I am up to.

Say hello to my new 1080P underwater camera.

I hope to be able to get a few good video's. I have never tried so we will see what happens out there soon.

So what did you use while machines were away for service ?

I'm thinking about getting an excalibur, not that anything is wrong with my AT.
Am kind of mixed, theres the sticker shock plus alot of neg reviews about leaks, poor headphones, busted knobs and terrible customer service.
Thought about the sand shark but I don't think a PI machine is for me at this point.

I went to the isle last week, just tooled around the swimming area and didn't find anything, machine was falsing alot in certain areas for whatever reason.
Did get a phone number of a hottie who liked my tattoos so I didn't walk away empty handed. Will be going back to hit the smaller beach area which is far more concentrated than the large area, I assume it gets pounded on a regular basis though I didn't see anyone there while I was there.

Nice investment on the cam, and if you lose it you can always refind it !

Doug, I have a few machines to play with. The one pictured is my CZ-21 with a 10.5 inch coil. I also have a Tiger Shark with a 8" coil and a Tiger Shark with a 10" coil. I have a few backup machines.

I have seen a few people at the main beach. However, it has been royally dead out there this year. Not many swimmers at all.

The day I was there, gonna say last Wednesday, it was packed, no parking in the parking lot and had to park a ways down the street.
Was about 92 that day, probably why. Little beach was so congested I didn't even think about going there, so a cooler day would probably be better for me with less people.

I looked in your area on the way out and didn't see any signs of life out there besides seagulls, never been wading out that way.

Went out to Pontiac Lake on Sunday, very hot and very dead, found 3 pennys for a 2 hour effort, 2 of them in the sand.
But that place is huge, I doubt if I swept 1/30th of the water area.

Always enjoy your post Scuba.

Another nice hunt Scuba. I'm glad your packaged detectors were on your porch also. As a retired UPS Delivery Driver, I know your concern about the package thieves ! Scum travels to even the best neighborhoods !!

Doug,

There is another place on Pontiac you can try. It is on the M-59 side called Walt's Point. Cost 5.00 to park there but when I first hit it a few years back I found over 50.00 in change. Beeps everywhere. I got a Barber half and a few gold rings out of there. With your AT-Pro you might be able to get a gold chain. I got one but I only saw it while digging another target. 18 grams of 14K. You can walk in the water to the beach at the trailer park and hotel also. I did good down there with gold rings.

I'm working on getting into scuba detecting, and this is greatly inspiring to me! Congrats to you and thanks very much!!

Congratualtions on the nice silver coins! :occasion14:

Thanks for the tip, I remember you saying something about this before.
Looking at recent google maps imagery, looks like the trailers are no more, only their concrete pads remain ,,, So they may be redeveloping the area.
Is there a beach area there per se, or just 1 big random swimming hole ?
