I only belong to 8---- 7 now---- Banks. This particular bank was all set up to be my dump bank. When I opened my account, the lady assured me i could deposit coins for instant credit, and even gave me a nice stack of about 30 coinlok bags. This bank only has 3 branched in my area. Well call the location I opened the account at A, the location I had issues with B, and the location I never visited C. Well, about 3 weeks ago, I go to location B and try to dump $2,000 in halfs- With no luck what-so-ever. Oh well, I left and thought nothing of it. Another CRH in my area dumps at location A, and was recently having issues, so I figured I wouldn't even waist my time there.
This particular bank charged 4 bucks a month, and doesn't offer any kind of student accounts of anything. So after seeing that they were going to do me no good, I decided I would close my account when I had time. As most of you know, I picked up a nice De La Ru Coin counter last week. New it costs $2,500, so its pretty solid- the real deal.
Saturday (the 25th) I decided I would have some fun. I went to location 2 with two coinlok bags and asked to swap for cash (9:00). After getting a firm no, I proceed to talk to the manager, and show her an email from location 1 saying I can deposit the coins and what not. In the most condescending voice she proceeded to tell me that their coin process was to take the coins, ship it off, have it counted, and credit my account in 1-2 weeks. I said that was the biggest joke I've heard. I then said something like, "HEY! I've got a nice coin counter that costs two grand in the car. Let me go get it so we can verify this coin together!" I wheel this massive counter into the branch and she looks at me funny and says that they cant use third party devices in the bank because I may have "tampered" with it (9:15). Now she says that they can only accept rolled coin for immediate credit. *this is where things start to get good* I say, awesome!, I don't have any plans the rest of the day, I whip out my knife, cut open the bag, and start pouring it out onto the counter. While doing so reiterating the fact that I could just short the rolls 1-4 coins, and they wouldn't know, so it would be easier for them to just take the bags. I think that pissed her off a little. Because now I can only deposit 100 in rolled coins for immediate credit.
It is now 9:30, I know for a fact 100% that I AM NOT getting immediate credit, and the coins will be leaving with me today. I figure, mine as well prolong this as long as I can. My next questions was, "This is a bank yes? so you can take coin? What is the normal process?". She proceeded to tell me again, Take the coin, ship it out, 1-2 I will receive credit into my account, AND there will be a 12 dollar fee. WAIT- a 12 dollar fee? Yup. *Knowing that I've just been lied to* I say, "Oh Awesome! No problem, I'll leave my coin here and you can debit my account in 1-2 weeks. Please show me the fee in your fee scheduled." Haha, to bad the fee scheduled doesn't have made up fees in it. The Manager, assistant manager, service specialist, and 2 teller all spent the next 20-25 minutes looking for this nonexistent fee. At 10:00, she comes up to me and says I need to leave and that they've spent to much time helping me. She proceeds to tell me that I need to go to location A to get the fee scheduled. I look at her a little sideways and say "This is _____ Bank, and the bank in location a is a ______ Bank, So you both use the same papers and have the same rules, so why will they give me something that you cant?" Then she told me she was done and I needed to leave right away. With a smile on my face I wave goodbye, tell them I'll be back Monday for the fee scheduled, and walk out. The coins got deposited at the bank 200ft down the street.
At one point, I said something like "Well this seems very anti-productive, maybe I'll just close my account", well that had to be the funniest thing because every employ in the bank looked up, yelled "yes!" and clapped lol.
Fast forward to this morning. The bank opens at 9:00. I get a call at 8:05, as I am walking to my first class that starts at 8:10. Its location A. The manager tells me that she no longer wants me as a customer, I need to come empty my account today or they'll do it for me, and that my name is being added to the banks blacklist. I found it touching that she wanted to go in 50 minutes early to cancel my account (LOL jk).
Fast forward until after school and after all my pick ups and dumps. It's about 4:30, bank closes at 5. I go in and try to withdraw 4.99 from my account, leaving .01 in the account. The teller tells me my debit card has been deactivated and gets the manager. I asked what the issue is. She says that I've been trying to sneak behind her back, by going to location B and then Location C, because I was supposed to go talk to her after my first issue (WHICH NO ONE TOLD ME). And funny thing was I have never been to location C, its to far for me. Anyways, she then tells me I caused a huge scene at the other branch, and they almost called the police to remove me (HA). For some reason the manager at location B told the manager at location A I had 15 bags of coin in my car. She thought I was money laundering or something and then repeated to tell me she just didn't want to do business with me any more.
Having as much fun as I can, I ask to see where in their user agreement is says they can cancel my account without cause. Of course! They can't find it. But she said I didn't seem like the type of guy to cause a huge scene, so I would be removed from the blacklist and she hoped we could do business in the future (HA). I suppose I may have said I had more coins or something along those lines when I was rambling on Saturday morning.
Lastly, they wouldn't let me leave with my debit card, and if I wanted it I had to cut it up, So I spent a solid 10 minutes making a beautiful snowflake out of the card. This thing was STUNNING! I should have taken a picture. LOL!

Lesson learned, Stay away from CALIFORNIA BANK AND TRUST!

Thanks for listening to my rant/ story. I had the biggest grin/ smile on my face the whole time. I hope you guys got a good laugh out of it as well.
-1 bank accounts lol. 7 left.

I've also been less active on the forums. Fed up with the power control held by mods, the harassment and slandering of certain members, and the overall lack of community right now. I'll still be checking in every once in a while. Always available PM if you need to get in contact with me.

On a CRH note, I pulled close to 15oz last week doing some intense volume. Don't have the exact numbers up right now. But it was a lot. Got 6 today and only got a '64. It's all good though.

Happy Hunting! Good Luck!

What a story! It's crazy how these banks behave, making up rules and regulations to suit themselves. That's why people like credit unions. Although I'm not sure they would like a volume dumper. They definitely could have been nicer about it.

And sorry you feel harassed by some members. I want to tell you that you are my inspiration for starting hunting in much bigger volume than I used to (22 boxes this week). Luckily I'm on the East coast so no competition. I'm always happy to read your posts especially the volume scores. Keep on posting!

That was a bit of a mess but at least you made the best of it and had some fun getting shown the door. I find that the smaller banks don't have the capacity to handle as much volume for either supply or dump and this is the usual outcome...I just take whatever I can get then move on to the next one.

I suggest you send several emails to the banks, tell them all the trouble she caused, inconvenience, and complete fabrication of company policy. Make certain you call her out by name. When you are no longer a member and will not be returning you might as well post the name of the bank here, get as many T-net members as possible to complain about her, with some emails alleging misconduct. We'll get this :censored: fired.

Also, send this blog an email detailing the whole event and trouble they've caused you. No need to explain coin roll hunting or anything, add the fact you've had a coin machine and I think the story's got a good chance of being published.
About Us ? Consumerist

I'd of personally chunked a roll right in her face.

EDIT: I was so mad at the top portion I didn't read the bottom half innitially, for all those curious, the bank's name is CALIFORNIA BANK AND TRUST!

If you don't know her name, go back and get it, and PM it to people who intend to send an email. She does this to you, we get her fired.

In the true spirit of 'One Upsmanship',

I had a bank in Texas, part of an international bank, block an incoming wire without cause, cost me $8,000 in profit on a transaction, made me lose a customer, and got my company into an international incident.

We sold product to a legitimate company in Dubai. They prepaid by wire transfer. The bank blocked the transfer stating they thought it was terrorism funding. The customer was not on any blocked, flagged, or denied entity list. The US Department of Commerce got involved for a resolution. The bank then dug in their heals rather than admit they were wrong. The Dubai Embassy in the US got involved and contacted their counterparts in the White House. A Dubai delegation was visiting and we had to meet with them and explain why our bank refused Muslim money on a legitimate business transaction. Then, the customer cancelled the order due to bank interference and the bank took over a month to return the funds.

I hate banks.

Oh, and you should file a formal complaint with the federal trade commission and all banking regulatory agencies. It also wouldn't hurt to send an email to your local congressional representative asking them to look into the matter. They will be responding to bureaucrats for months over the loose change.

You brought a coin counter into a bank? You pulled a knife out in a bank? You expected branch B to accept the same agreement you came to with branch A? I'm sorry, I enjoy you and your posts on this forum, but this entire thread makes you and all coin roll hunters look bad.
As much as we'd like to think it, we don't have a leg to stand on if a bank refuses to take our coins or tries to charge you a fee for dumping, and I think most of us get that. You suck it up and move on to the next bank. This whole drama queen of a post is the exact opposite of civility and decorum that keeps this hobby alive.

9/10 CU's in the area want nothing to do with me. The other 1 will take 4-8 bags a week.
Thanks man.

Don't worry, I already submitted a formal complaint Sunday Night.

That really sucks. Just have to think of the bright side. As a CRH, we make money off of the banks, and are some of the only people who do so.

I don't need to/ want to go that far. I filed a complaint on their website about the unprofessional matter, and that's it. I'm done with it. haha.

I knew there were gonna be some haters. Why wouldn't I bring a coin counter into a bank? I have one available, and it they want to count my coins...? I've pulled a knife out in a bank many times. Honestly, its a tool. Most people don't jump to the conclusion that it's a weapon and I'm gonna rob the place. I didn't make CRH look bad, they had no idea what I was doing with the money- hence the reason they closed my account..... I think..... Anyways, I usually do move on and go to the next. But when I am lied to, and on top of that being charged a monthly fee, all bets are off. Wanted to go out with a bank, nothing wrong with that.

^^^^^^ This. Most banks allow people to buy & dump huge amounts of coins as a courtesy IF you have a business account and do your cash deposits through them as well. I understand that you're young and from the generation that feels that everyone owes you something but come on man. They make NOTHING from helping you and you gotta be a drama queen when things don't go exactly the way you think they should ? And why shouldn't they charge you a monthly fee ? They are a business, not a place that exists simply to cater to YOU for free.. I'm betting it won't be long before you can't do business at any local banks. The other guys on here who do this as a hobby should be telling you to grow up and quit messing it up for everyone, not cheering you on.. Just my 50 cents worth.. Call me a "hater" if it makes you feel better but that's not the case at all. I simply think you're a spoiled child who has alot to learn. Your little hissy fit could very well spoil it for every other CRHer who uses that same bank and be the catalyst for making them change their policies across the board and you clearly could care less. What amazes me is how many of these guys think you did the right thing..

HA! I have business accounts at most of the banks I deal with. And am happy to pay a monthly fee to them. Where did I ever say I feel that everyone owes me something? I HATE when people stereotype me based on my age/ generate. At least get to know me before you make these statements. Yes I need to make a scene when I am lied to, NOT because they would do what I wanted, but because they did the opposite of what they said they would do. Like I said, Happy to pay fees. I've been up and running for over 6 months doing large volume, and things are going better than ever, I don't see any reason why all the big banks would suddenly shut me down. "A spoiled child who has a lot to learn" Wow. And other CRH have been screwed by the same bank, I know for a fact another CRH who through a huge scene just like mine at the same bank. My little scene in one little branch isn't going to change the policy's across the board. Think about how ridiculous that sounds. I knew some people weren't going to agree, but it's all good.

I would go a step further and suggest that it isn't limited to this "same bank" - stories about incidents like this can travel across banks as tellers & managers move from one bank to another. Bad/annoying behavior at one bank could have a dampening effect on coin pickups & dumps in the whole region.

We do a lot of work picking up, sorting, and dumping coin, but so do the branches & tellers in ordering it & processing it. Every bit of courtesy & salesmanship matters. I always ease in to activity very gradually at every new branch I've never visited before. A few times when I have tried to start more aggressively I've been immediately cut off, and I know I blew an opportunity by pushing it too fast.

I think we need to remember that we are basically barnacles, regularly benefitting from getting free services that actually cost the banks money. This will only last as long as we fly under the radar, are friendly, social & grateful. The minute you become an annoyance you become vulnerable and make the whole CRH world more vulnerable to being cut off.

I enjoy your posts and your CRH work ethic, and I'm not trying to pile onto a war of words. Just stating what I think is an important truth about the reality of what we all do and how fragile it is.

...I've been up and running for over 6 months doing large volume, and things are going better than ever, I don't see any reason why all the big banks would suddenly shut me down.

Whenever we get hassled, cut off, or the threat of being cut off, we have two choices. #1 we protest, justifying our activity with our good reasons (you: I have business accounts; I've been up and running for over 6 months; me: I'm always very polite and patient, I've never violated anything in your terms, etc.) -OR- #2, we remain gracious, cut our losses, and move on. If one particular employee is having an attitude problem, it might be appropriate to discretely contact their manager. But generally speaking I think it is in our own best interest and the best interest of the CRH community as a whole to just cut losses and move on.

You have business accounts but the brutal facts are that you are a high school kid and you don't keep high balances in those accounts. Are you being discriminated against based on those facts? Yes, almost certainly. But you have to look at the long game and the big picture in deciding how to respond to that. It isn't really a civil rights issue that's going to gain a lot of sympathy. I honestly don't see much upside to "fighting back", and a lot of downside.

Not here to argue with anyone. Please point out some of the positive results you think will come from causing a huge scene whenever someone upsets you... Banks exist to make money. It's what their share holders expect. Please tell us how much income they will lose if they show you the door as compared to how much they make from having you as a customer... You "HATE" when people stereotype you because of your age ? I said you have alot to learn. If you think there is nothing left to learn because you already know it all at such a young age there is NO hope for you. I have children much older than you yet I learn something new everyday. Have a great day.

That Sux Omega- I havent been cut off yet from dumping- mainly cause Im only at $5k a week and I have a good system where I only dump $1k on 1 bank every week every other bank gets rotated and onky sees me 1x every other week-
Im sure the bank you dealt with were just tired of crh overall like you said the other crh in that srea had similar situation- good thing you have more fall backs
Keep huntin man-

Ummm... Sounds like we're getting away from the topic of the scene in the bank and talking in a more general sense. Anyways, I expected nothing to come from my scene at the bank, I went in knowing they wouldn't take my coin, figured I mine as well go out with a bang and have a little fun if my accounts going to be lost. Think about how the banks really make money? Robbing ordinary citizens etc. Honestly making money off of them is a huge plus for me. I'm sure we have different views in the banking institute and how they function, but I don't want to argue over that.
Say what'd you like. No worries. Thanks.

Oh ya, I'll never stop, and the other CRH was only going to branch A. I didn't need this bank, I have 8 (I think) branches that'll take 5k a week. Only problem is I can't get that much coin haha.

I bring them brownies, donuts, fruit, and other goodies every week. I offer to carry the coins into the back vault so the tellers don't have to do the heavy lifting. I always go at non-busy hours so they don't feel the extra stress. Honestly I don't know what else I could do for them, but it doesn't matter because non of them are cutting me off.

That is Very Good. It seems like you are taking good care of the banks that take care of you. A lot of us could really learn from you. I brought cupcakes to four of my main banks before Christmas, but aside from verbal thanks, that's all I've done.

The only issue is on how to treat the people/banks/tellers that *don't* treat us well. There are certainly different schools of thought on this in general. Within the CRH world, I guess I'm an advocate for turning the other cheek, in order to not kill the goose that laid the golden egg.
