SMS88, the chain looks plated.....gold plating over a silver tone base metal. My guess is that it is a bogus 14K stamp.

gemee, you are right that it is plated, except that your thinking is reversed. It is silver tone plated with solid 14K gold in the center. One of the links is broken, and I can see the gold in the center. My local coin dealer tested it for gold and it tested positive
 

Why would anyone cover 14K yellow gold with silver plate ??? Beyond me !!! wonder if mine is like that too ???
