met my tax accountant through a yardsale and went to see her today. It’s been 3 yrs since I’ve known her. She knows I deal with metals and jewelry and we love to give each other gas once in awhile...

So I go over and she wants to show me something and pulls out this box and says what are they worth? I nearly crap my pants, never had the chance to hold one let alone a set... but, I have to know... well, what do you think they are worth? She said stop, Idk...
Me: I want your guess! No lie, she says this one says $25. This one says $50. According to the paperwork. They are old, so maybe $100?

I crapped my pants twice by this point!!!!!

How does 98% melt sound from the refinery sound?
(Btw- you all on this site helped me be more honest)
And it pays off every day and I sincerely thank you!

Almost agree Jim. Tell me what Eagle have you seen that only sold for scrap? They all have more than scrap value no matter the condition no?
SO Beach, Did you acquire them? What was the expression on her face when you told her the value? Where did she get them?
Pleas elaborate on the statement "we love to give each other gas once in awhile... " DOnt hold back. Give us all the dirt :)
PS if you did get these nice score

She about crapped her pants when I told her what they are worth. Now I will say I did sell them to the refinery. I don’t know if they will melt them or they will sell them to another dealer. Not looking to get taken on eBay or find the right buyer. 98% spot is what I got for them, selling on consignment. I get 25% of what they sold for. Another day and time I wish I could’ve kept them. And if it was a yard sale I’m not sure I would’ve told her what they were worth. Total different scenario though. When someone asked you to tell them what they’re worth I tell them what they’re worth. And it sitting on the table for $100 I’m buying them for $100.

Give me tell her gas? I guess just kind of joking or give Each other a hard time to each other and have fun.

If she has no idea what gold is worth, I don't know if I would trust her as my tax accountant. Just saying.

Most eagles *used to* sell for more than scrap.

With the recent move in prices, premiums on all gold coins have collapsed. There are to many buyers and not enough sellers. You can currently order gold on the wholesale market for $6 under spot, and wholesale it out for $10 under spot. This includes AGE's, Krugs, Maples, etc. etc. There was a refinery in New York that just melted 10,000 gold eagles because they couldn't fetch a premium for them. Yes, that's $15,000,000 dollars worth. Hopefully once the price recovers and stabilized the premiums come back. It's crazy to think 1 ounce buffalo PCGS MS69 slabbed are only worth the same as an average circ krug, but in the market today it is true.

Hold them if you can, thats what I've been doing with the ones I pick up. Worst case I'll just sell them as gold and make a few bucks, but if the premiums come back my payday will be a little bigger :laughing7:.

What are these coins worth individually or is there a premium added if taken as a set? These Eagles are well above my pay grade so I really have no idea what they're actually worth.

Spot basically. $1550 & 725. I’m didn’t mess with resale. Just scrapped.

I feel ya on being able to keep them. I had one once for 3 days. But ultimately need the $ for something else. Maybe the 1/10th. But I’m just in the business. A lot of $ may move hands with very little profit. Yardsales and thrift stores are the way to go by far!

Got got a call, 3000 silver eagles and silver bars coming to the refinery tomorrow if I’m interested. I may check them out for any hand poured Englehard. But other then that, not buying anything.

What ended up happening with this? Wish I saw it sooner, could have sent you cash for the eagles. Silver eagles are still trading at their premium on the wholesale market. i always pick up as many as possible for spot when I can, but those opportunities are few and far between.
