1.5 foot iron object

Ran across this in the woods Sunday, it came from an area the saw alot of Civil war traffic so I hauled it out just in case, didn't want it being one of those stories where I find out it is something and can't find it again.? Anyways it is about 1.5 feet long, it has approx 4 inch rod inside centered about dime diameter in thickness and the whole thing is about 5 inches in diameter tapered from open end down to about 3 inches and squared off on final end.? Hope this is descriptive enough...shoe in picture is 4.5 inches wide and 12 inches long if that helps for scale.? Thanks for any help -Underwood

Looks like it might be an iron thimble-skein from an old wagon--
That sounds like a good possibility to me, did come from near an old wagon road and grist mill is in the area

Although if not worth a bunch of $$$......I think I would Make a cannon out of it!

I'd have to agree with PBK, the photos toward the bottom of the link look just like it.
