What is coin silver?

Coin Silver is a term for items made from Melted Silver Coins. From what I've read, it was used mostly from 1847 to 188? to distinguish between silver and plated silver, Silver Plating became popular around 1847.

if its coin silver it could have been a Pine Tree Shilling or a Half Disme at some point...hehe
