I was on my way home from work today and passed by a school Ive not hunted yet.I stopped in for a 1/2 an hour.I was swarmed with 3 interested kids.I dug 1 quarter,5 pennies,1 dime, and this 1989 canadian quarter.I let the kids have the clad.Even though its not worth much ,I keep ALL foriegn coins because I think they are interesting as dug coin finds.I looked it up and it is .999 nickel.I am wondering if anyone knows what/how to clean the black off of it so I can see it better before I put it in the 2x2 holder.

Thanx for lookin,jimmy

Nice quarter Jimmy. Don't use electrolysis on Nickle. Turns them Pink. (I found out the hard way, ever seen a pink buffalo) Any other cleaner would probably do ok. Congrats...Lance

Glad to hear you got to go out and play today!!! ;D

Congrats on your finds!

Nana ;)

Nice find, I like the foriegn coins as well. You might just try soaking it in olive oil for up to several weeks, lightly brush it occasionally, I cut down a small paint brush so the brissels are sturdier. HH, Mike

Nice digs Jimmy. I like the foreign coins too, and keep them in my "treasure chst". As for cleaning nickel, well, that's the one coin I haven't yet found a good way to clean. Found a few ways NOT to clean them though, lol! HH!

Nice Nickel, I have cleaned a silver ring that was quite tarnished from setting in a fresh water lake by taking aluminum foil and a few drops of distilled vinegar, then wrapping it up tight to make good contact with the ring. I let it set for a few minutes, then check it and reapply as necessary. I saw dramatic results the first time I tried this. It may take a few times doing this. Depends on the discoloration. Take care HH Art...
