waxy melts indiana

I found this rock in the woods, near the creek. It's lightweight, the outside is a sandy coating, animals have gnawed on it, and when a Hot pin is touched to the inner part it melts and gives off a burning plastic or coal-like smell. It weighs around 8 pounds. I can find nothing that looks like...
