Detecting an old home site in a farm field getting lots of pop cans and then I found this. I haven’t cleaned it up yet. It rang up lead and is heavy. I’ve tried researching online, but can’t find any info on lead/pewter buckles. Any info is much appreciated!
Greetings and thank you in advance. I’ve been detecting Colorado with historical emphasis for a couple years now. A favorite has been discovering the Overland trail. I have a trip planned for Lexington area next week. Kentucky sure has some amazing history. It’s been a dream of mine to hunt a...
Went to a local freshwater beach/boat launch/hangout on this dreary day up here in Maine. Never detected it before, it just kind of popped into my head this afternoon. I figured there wouldn't be as many people there when the sun wasn't shining. I was right, just a couple fisherman. This place...
Today we headed to the old court house… this was in use up to around 1950. Never have we dug so much lead…. And you know we dig a lot! Most of it was ugly lead, the blobby stuff, but we got a nice range of stuff, I found 2 pennies 1860 and 1861.
The musket balls here are the smaller ones, a...
We managed to get a full day of digging in today! Went to a field we haven’t been to before recent rain meant the walking and digging were easier than it has been, got a great mix of lead, musket balls, crotal bell, buttons, a 1860 penny and some items we have no clue about, the huge lead...
Yesterday I spent 5 hours metal detecting at a beach. I found 13oz of lead, some modern coins, and a coins line of wheat pennies! There are 14 wheat pennies total and one has a mint error!
A few bullets (I think) around NW GA old farm land. They look similar to Civil War era rounds but most of the pictures I?ve seen have more pronounced ridges around them... Any idea what period these bullets are from (if they are bullets?) One looks impacted like it was fired. Fairly heavy and...
I found this yesterday while metal detecting at a church that is about 175 years old. I am almost sure it is made from lead, it is a bottle of some sort, very heavy to be so small.
Hello All:
Years ago, I found this under an old house in Savannah Georgia. It is lead and weighs about 200 grams (~7 oz).
The closest thing I have found in my research is this: Lead Indian Pendant (Sergei has a great metal detecting site BTW). I am skeptical that this is what this is... but...
Good Morning everyone!
Recently, I was metal detecting in a local woods and discovered this interesting Hexagonal bullet. That woods had alot of history judging by the relics I have uncovered there. In that aria I have found a topographical engineer button, Numerous belt buckles, coins, and...
I found this item in a field in Luxembourg (western Europe.)
I have found items in the area dating back to the 1600s as well as everything in between.
It is made out of lead.
Any help on what its purpose was or what the emblem at the top is would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
I think the thing I found today out of a civil war field might be a three ringer a soldier took and carved into something. The thing is I don't know exactly what he carved it into. My theories are Sinker(just never got to put a hole through it), or a game piece. If anyone has any ideas please...
Here is some miscellaneous lead I’ve dug on the battlefield. A lot of them look like lead artillery sabbot fragments. But my strangest find is this lead tube. I joked with my girlfriend that a soldier carried it on a rope. But in all honesty I’m not sure what it is. I’d love to have this mystery...
So, I have a big piece of Iron I found alongside some old axe heads (and pick head) and some Early 1800s items. Most I have found in this area has been late 1700s to early 1800s. It was a farm into the 1960s but I have not found much from that era. I have also found a trigger guard and a butt...
Has anyone seen a bag seal like this before? I’m not sure that it even is a seal. It’s a flat piece of lead and appears to have a rabbit holding something in its hands. It’s about a half inch in diameter and a 1/4 inch thick. Pulled from a mid 1800’s site. Any help is appreciated! I’ll try to...
Hi it's been a while! Its too hot to hunt lately so I got curious about this older find...
It says New York City, but looks like theres a Co. before that. Found in Florida, in a town settled by veterans but no battles were here, there was a sugar mill very close to where it was found.
I found...
Hey guys, I had found this 2 gram piece of silver metal while prospecting, was trying to find out what it was. One guy said he thought it was gold covered in mercury, but I put a torch to it and it got cherry red and instead of turning gold it turned black afterwards. Does anyone have any idea...
Found this at a site that has had a wide variety of stuff. From new change to 1939 dime, 1944 quarter, 1930 quarter dollar to a king George 17xx. I don’t know if this is anything old. It’s interesting to me. It’s seems to be made of a heavy soft material possibly lead? It’s as large as a newer...
I went to a public beach near a Coast Guard station 10 minutes down the road to metal detect there with my Garrett Ace 250 again...
I found 7 different lead fishing weights/sinkers, a modern quarter and a 1959 memorial penny, some trash, and the stuff pictured below
My dad believes these are...
I live in Saint Joseph Missouri. My wife came across a lead bar stamped National Lead Co, while doing some cleaning on a foreclosure we bought. It looks old. Other than the obvious, I can't find any info about it. Any help would be appreciated.
Hello everyone, this is my first post. Recently bought a Garrett AT Pro to do some relic hunting. My first find was this strange piece. It's very heavy, probably lead and looks pretty old. I found it in the US Virgin Islands next to the ruins of an old stone wall. I was thinking it might be...
I recently picked up this stock certificate from the Homestake Mining Company that was issued on February 9, 1880. It had been signed by J.K. Goodrich and J.B. Haggin. Haggin of course was one of the three mining magnates who founded the Homestake Mining Company with George Hearst and Lloyd...
Hi everyone, here are today's findings. Some of the things are bizarre - the lead/pewter pieces have weird indentations or designs on them. Lots of pottery shards. The item John is most interested in learning about is the bronze cap-looking thing. It was dug at 18" deep and registered around 85...
Hello! Our first post here. This was dug up via metal detector on a 1683 property in Massachusetts. At various points over the centuries, the property was used as a tavern/boarding house, complete with blacksmith, farrier, 60-stall barn, etc. There was also a schoolhouse on the property at one...
I was taking the hoe to my little garden and found what appears to be Galena I think. It's a bit shinier and lighter weight than specimens I have handled before. Could that be to more silver content?
The largest piece weighs 6.6oz the next smallest 1.6oz and the smallest .5oz. The shotgun shell...
Hey guys I am new to this site, this is actually my first post.
I was detecting around southern Massachusetts in the woods when I came across this little bullet, would anyone be able to tell me what it is or maybe how old it is?? Thank you!
I hunted an old park today then went to a friends house in the neighborhood near the park. I'm still hunting with a BH beginner detector so the trash was making me work today. I will for sure go back, maybe tomorrow! Here are my finds. ID anything if you can! Thanks y'all!
Small Bullet not...
So I was at a park that is decently old. Not sure exactly how old. Here are three different bullets the smaller one is modern I'm sure but what is it? Also two lead bullets. One looks like an enfield. Let me know y'all. Thanks!
Here is the small cal.
Here is the mangled lead.
Here is...
I have been detecting in an 80 acre row-crop field for the last month or so when the weather has allowed. After about 8 or 9 trips, I've found 50 or so round balls, around 30 Enfields (most dropped but chewed up pretty good by disks over the years), and hundreds of melted pieces of lead ranging...
So, new to the forum as far as posting. Curious if anyone has an idea on this. Found these figures (6-8 inches tall or so) and other related pieces in a tight area at low tide on a beach in San Diego over the weekend. Mostly under sand but no deeper than a few inches. They seems to be lead...
I have a standing Liberty quarter that appears to be lead. It's dated 1929 and weighs 7 grams. It's a dull gray color and makes a thunk sound when dropped on a wood table. My aunt bought it from her son who then gave it to me with several authentic standing liberty quarters and barber coins...
Found this about 6" down not far from Balls Bluff area on private property. Not sure but it looks like some kind of tobacco pipe, but possibly made of some kind of lead or metal? Not sure. Any help would be MUCH appreciated.

Picture is of a rock i found near my house. I found some pictures of lead/silver mine claims on Ebay and alot of the rocks in the woods near by looked simmilar. Then i found rumors of lost mines in Missouri, then i found sink holes in woods and i hear of people finding old Roman coins here...
Hi all,
Found this (what looks to be a lead weight) the other day, forget where I found it as I was in a few different fields and I found a gold half sovereign, so I was all excited about that and didn't bother with the other finds. It is solid lead and has stripes going all the way around it...
I went out detecting near a local river after work for a little over an hour and found a lot of trash but I brought a few pieces home that I thought were more interesting.
I told my wife that the Colgate tubes looked to be from the late 60's or 70's, I looked them up and was right on. The...
