Newbie question, here -- I'm learning about half dollars. I need to understand the difference between recognizing a "satin finish" on the 2005-2010 Denver half dollars vs recognizing a "proof mirror-like finish". Any guidance from the experienced CRH-ers?
Thanks!
So, long story short, I haven't done any roll hunting for a few years due to employment circumstances. However, I now have an income so today when I stopped by the bank to make a withdrawal I thought to myself: maybe I should see if they have any half dollars.
The teller told me that she had 3...

Hi everyone! I've been CRH for a few years and lurking on the forums for a while but this is my first post.
Does anyone have a creative way to store or display your (silver) half dollars? I've been storing them in old jars etc, but I want to display them and enjoy watching them as they...
The weasel is out of hibernation! Here's Saturday's great box of halves!
Hey guys and gals, I am back from taking a long break from CRH. For the noobs, it is nice to meet you, I am Weaselbrott. It is good to see you all, I hope you are all doing well, and making great finds. I have still been...
Well, I have found 16 40%ers in $4,000 in halves already this week! I'm super pumped. It was a good week last week and another good one this week too. All my finds came from MWR in delivered boxes. The best part was that I found MY SECOND SILVER BICENTENNIAL!!! It's absolutely bananas! I went...
Well, it has only been one day, and I hit a major score today at one bank. I ended up searching 5 half dollar boxes, and went to banks for CWRs, and one of the banks I stop at every month or so on my route had 8.00 in halves. I heard all of them make a clean silver clink on the table, and saw...

Got a bronzed 1966, and a 1976S 40% silver proof

Weirdest coins of the week

Don't Cry Over Spilled Halves!!
I was so disappointed when I dumped my coins last week and filled up the half bag. They placed it on the counter in front of me and turned back to the counter. I watched as the bag tipped over and spilled onto the floor behind the counter. I couldn't see well...
Just kidding, Happy Thursday! Having the skunkiest week since I have started, but tomorrow I am off of work and plan a suburban customer wrapped coin search. Please send all your good luck my way! :)
OK so today I went to my first bank and they wouldn't sell me any halves so I went to 4 other banks the second I found 5 40% out of two rolls. The third I found a 1943 walking liberty Benjamin Franklin half and 1 40$ out of two rolls. The fourth I found 3 40%s out some loose coins. And the last...
So I caught the silver bug a month or so ago, and ordered some silver bullion online, thinking that would take care of the bug. I was wrong. I have been looking at ways to find silver without paying spot for it and I came across this wonderful website.
Since I am a noob to this, any...
No cups actually...but since you clicked...
Had a really great box today. The banks only had one box for me. This box had the same 4 digit code as my last 6 boxes from this bank from last week, which only gave up 4 40%ers and 1 90% ben (every other box was a skunk). I had no expectation of...
Hi guy! Here are my weekly totals:
This came early in the week, and was very pleasant to see. Came from a box.
Went to a new territory and found some CWRs. Had only $20 in half dollar CWRs, but here is the first roll
The second one was also quite awesome!
And the box to close out the end...
Had a pretty good week this week:
8 boxes of halves gave me 6 90%ers (4 walking!, 1 beat up Ben, and a 1964JFK) and 9 40%ers.
2 boxes of dimes gave me an 1899 Hong Kong dime (80%), a rosie, and found two rosies and a Canada 1940 silver dime(80%) in a reject tray/tube).
3.838oz this week or a...
PARENTAL ADVISORY: Silver XXX. Lighting struck again: Weaselbrott's amazing week
So I expanded my territory today... Worth it...
But first.. I had a busy week with half boxes. I did 11 boxes this week, which is a personal record for one week. I also had 5 skunk boxes, which was also a...
I had a very disappointing week for halves indeed. Out of 7 boxes of halves and about 300 in [skunk] customer wrapped halves, I only got 2 90%ers, and 3 40%ers for the whole week. Some stampless and some 4-digit stamped string&son boxes. Out of 1 box of dimes and about $500 in customer wrapped...
I just got a yellow H.F. String & Son box from the usual bank, but I noticed there was no stamp on the box at all. In it, I found two 1964s and nothing else. This is the first time I have found two 64s in one box, but also without any accommodating 40%ers either. What is up with that? I have...
I've been around the CRH scene for a few months now, and have been a lurker of the scene since 2009. In that time, I have noticed there are a few different techniques that the pros use to get silver, and some pitfalls to them. I will list what I see, and feel free to post yours.
1. High volume...
A week in coin roll hunting finds (3 boxes of halves, 2 boxes of dimes, and mixed customer wrapped rolls).
2.46oz of .900 silver. A current melt value of $85.47 (as of 9/22/12).
I will be heading to two new bank branches in the next town over and hope to score some CWRs today, then I am...
Went to a new branch of a bank that I stop at on my lunch breaks when I am at work. They do three coin orders per week and I asked them to tack one box for every order. This is an extra $1500 in halves a week to search in conjunction with the one box per week from another branch, and the two...
Every Monday is Precious Metal Monday; so long as a bank is open and has rolls for me! After a Sunday with no banks to get rolls from, doesn't Monday always feel like a holiday (work aside, of course!)?
Anyway, on my lunch today, I went to a new bank branch (out of the hundreds in the city...
It's all about the customer wrapped rolls: My weekly finds
I had already found 2 90% quarters in reject trays of bank coin counters, and another from a teller tray. Found 3 dimes from machine rolled dimes this week as well. Pic is below, but first my tally from today...
So today, I took my...
I've been buying halves in MWR at one of my banks 5 rolls at a time and every single one has had a 2000 or 2001 reverse showing on both sides. I thought this was odd and what is even stranger is the teller keeps telling me that these halves have already been searched for silver. I didn't believe...
It seems like a lot of coin roll hunters get great finds with customer wrapped rolls. But it also seems that finds are more consistent with boxes or machine wrapped rolls. What have been your experiences? My only results have been from CWR but it's hard finding a bank with these let alone...
My Finds In Pictures: Weaselbrott's Ongoing Coin Roll Hunting Diary
This summer 2012, I started the coin roll hunting seriously. I signed up for a dump bank account to use their coin counter for the hobby that was soon to ensue. Upon dumping coinage over the many visits, this is what I found in...
I was in California two weeks ago and picked up my first box of Kennedy halves at Chase bank and found (15) 90% silver coins (14 from 1964 and 1 Franklin from 1963) and (24) 40% silver coins from 1965-1970.
I picked up $190 in rolled coins from another branch that day and found 3 more 90%...
I'm relatively new to CRH and I wanted to know how others are averaging with a certain supplier. I just finished checking my fourth box of halves and I got skunked for the fourth time. I know it's not many boxes but it's still frustrating. The courier at the bank I use is Dunbar and and the...
