I don't get on here much, but I would like to share some of my better finds from the past few months.
I mostly try and target Civil War sites or older.
I'm in Cabarrus county NC, but travel all over to dig. I would like to find a digging buddy somewhat close by.
Hi All. I've just got my first Minelab Equinox 800, read through the online manual and had a play so I think I understand the basics but I've got a question around what's probably 'chatter'. Basically, depending on the ground, the detector quite often bleeps without showing any numbers on the...
The Minelab technician told one forum user that replacing your shaft with a carbon fiber shaft has to be done carefully. He said most Equinox water problems come from putting back the control unit on the shaft the detectorist will tighten the four screws too tight to achieve a strong water tight...
You have basically four books on the Equinox metal detector to choose from.
1) The Minelab Equinox 600 800 Metal Detector Hand book by Andy Sabisch $23.95 - 176 pages
2) Minelab The Equinox Series from Beginner to Advanced by Clive Clynik $19.95 - 111 pages
3) The Minelab Equinox: ?an Advanced...
I have the Nox 800 Since March 2018.
I bought the Simplex+ for my sons to go hunting with me early this year.
Too lazy to learn two sets of tones and VDI readings.
Sold the Simplex+ (still think it is a good detector, just different).
Bought the 540.
Sold the 540 thinking I did not need it (I...
I have a Coiltek 10 x 5" Nox coil coming in this week (hopefully) and that will be a nice reduction in weight by replacing my stock coil.
I am wondering if replacing the stock rods will reduce the weight further by any noticeable amounts?
Anyone have so me experience in this option?
I heard about her in the Fall of 2017 and was dying to meet her. So, in the Spring of 2018 I had saved up enough money to be able to meet her personally. When she arrived she was so good looking and even kind of sexy.
Now prior to meeting Miss Equi, I had flirted with Miss Fisher, Miss Garrett...
What seems to be the best/preferred method to help with making the NOX 800 more durable in the water? Having read about some that have had issues has anyone made theirs more watertight?
I noticed with some test items I placed on the ground ring up about 1-2 TID's higher in 4 kHz than in Multi. 3 ringer, wheatie, rosie dime, standing liberty and morgan dollar.
I wonder why? no big deal, just adjust your numbers in your head. Also you need to check the bottle caps in multi...
I hunt for Civil War relics and also do some coin hunting. I know the current wisdom is the 15 inch coil is a little deeper than the stock coil and covers a little bit more real estate per swing.
But I had noticed that it also makes targets ring up more solid and less jumpy than the stock coil...
I would love to hear more about the Apex. I wonder if much is really known about the Apex, or is it just another ho-hum detector that is not getting anyone excited?
Garrett has the resources, so are they seriously competing with the Equinox, Simplex and Vanquish detectors?
I am hunting civil war areas in metro Atlanta and from north Atlanta up to Chattanooga, TN along the I-75 route.
Economic growth in Georgia since the Civil War has caused a lot of good Civil War hunting sites to be come polluted with other metal trash since 1864. I suspect this is true of PA...
I have owned my 800 since March 2018 and Vanquish 2 weeks. I had heard the TID’s were the same so I got out my extensive collection of junk and some CW bullets and silver coins to do some comparative air tests.
I was in the relic mode on the Vanquish 540 and the Field 2 mode on the Nox 800...
Hi everyone,
So, I am trying to make a tough decision between a few detectors. So, I went metal detecting on Sunday and my Garrett at max, which has been a wonderful machine to me, decided to do some wonky things and I called Garrett the next day. I'm going to send in my metal detector and...
I purchased a Nox 800 from amazon and out of the box the power button was defective. I called minelab USA and talked to Steve who was very helpful and I am sending my nox back to minelab tomorrow and receiving a brand new one. so from all the posts ive read about minelab customer service being...
Hello all! so I purchased a Nox 800 off of amazon 2 weeks ago (finally moving up from my Ace 250) and as soon as I assembled it and went to hit the power button....a whole lot of nothing happened. so I tried it again and again, after about 20 presses of the button in different spots it finally...
Did not like the Simplex for only two reasons. Could not get used to the tone system and the 99 TID range was too different than my Equinox 800. So I am going to order the 540 and when I find a V10 coil I am going to buy it for the 540. I am almost more excited about getting the Vanquish than I...
Review of Clive Cylick third Equinox book – “Skill-Building with the Minelab Equinox Series Metal Detectors.
I think this is the best book in his Equinox series. It is written for a large group of new Equinox users. It is not written for very experience users of other Minelab products or the...
There are a lot of posts on various metal detecting forums asking Equinox 600 or 800 user what settings they use. In my opinion this is not the way to go about deciding what settings you should use for your Equinox.
Why? Other people’s settings are for their specific type of soil and the...
Can anyone provided some Equinox TID numbers on various Civil War Relics you have found? Also the depths that you recovered them from?
I am starting to hunt Civil War battle and camp ground sites here in Georgia.
Much appreciated.
I think most of the Equinox users agree pull tabs, pop tops, bottle caps, can slaw, and especially round aluminum wine bottle caps are a bane to us.
So if you have leaned some good techniques that help ID these pesky items on your 600 or 800 please share them here.
I did't like the narrow 40...
This is my second post in the last 24 hours. Old buyer fell through so it’s back on the market (I couldn’t mark the old post unsold).
I have a like new Equinox 600 for sale. Lightly used in the last year about 3 times. Only thing “wrong” with it is the charger plastic chipped when trying to...
New Equinox Update 2.0 Coming?
This Is what i've seen:
" Based on the data received from Equinox users from around the world, some software adjustments were made to improve the operation of the basic functions of the device. In addition, smoother backlighting has been made possible for the...
So I just bought a new Minelab Equinox 800. My first time out was definitely a challenge. I was hunting with a Minelab Xterra 705. I had a lot of jumpy signals, nothing that I am accustomed to hearing from the xterra. I'm sure it's a learning curve. I documented my first hunt on youtube, maybe...
Hi, my father and I both have an Equinox 800.
My father bought the 15" coil and he's away for a few days, so i'm thinking of trying it out on the beach.
My question is not about more coverage, but depth.
Is the 15" coil truly much deeper than the standard Equinox coil on the beach?
I will be...
Love my Equinox 800.
BUT....getting tired of it Identifying practically everything as a good target!!!!!
I know the CTX is wayyyy better, wayyy more expensive and i wouldn't get one for numerous reasons, mainly the crap screen and weight.
BUT....check out one example of what i mean here...
My wife worked for Intel for many years. I remember back in the late 1970’s she brought home a chart that predicted the micro processing power for their chip line for the next 30 years. It was a steady upward curve from the old early pc chip the 8088. Guess what, it was almost dead on the money...
Finally got the family out metal detecting with me. Our schedules are always so busy it is rare that we get the time set aside to do this. That was nice.
This was my first permission hunt. My in-laws have several acres that used to be part of a sugar cane plantation. I didn't find anything...
For Sale - Minelab Equinox 600 Metal Detector. Used 6-8 times last year. Like New. Upgraded to latest software. Everything included. Gently used. I'll include a printed version of the manual (as they have you download it from the web site). $595. I want to upgrade to the 800 so I'm letting...
I agree with the hype statement by smokey his post. This past Feb and Mar of 2018 I really got caught up in the Equinox hype (and boy was there a lot of hype on the forums and on youtube). So I sold my AT Pro and purchased an Nox 800.
what a surprise I was in for. Had no idea that it had such a...
I have read where several Equinox owners with the 15 x 12 inch coil reporting over all not so good results with the coil use in the default settings. A number owners have said you must use recovery speeds 5 or below and 4 seems to be the best.
Why is that? Just the nature of larger coils?
I have read where some hunters noise cancel with the coil on the ground to get a better reading from the ground. Any thoughts on this technique? Anyone using this method for noise canceling.
The theory being that better you ground balance and noise cancel along with lowering the sensitivity the...
I have owned the 800 since March of this year with the intention of starting to do more civil war relic and old home site hunting. I was under the impression before I purchased my 800 that it was really good at picking through junk targets that masked coins, 3 ringers etc. But maybe people were...
here is my limited understanding of coils.
Concentric coil search pattern is cone shaped with the point being at the deepest.
They are good for pinpointing deep targets.
But it seems that if you have a coin at the point of the cone and trash in the wider upper coin you have a problem with...
I came from 3 years using an AT Pro. So the audio term "flutly" is not well understood by me. After the update on my 800 some things have seemed to have changed for the better.
hunting today at a permission I have hunted twice before the update, I noticed that all my clad coins came in with a...
I came from three years of hunting with the AT Pro and many hours on other mid-ranged price detectors. I now have about 30 hours on the Equinox 800 and on any given day after a hunt I am about ready to sell the 800 and buy another AT Pro. But I find myself out there 2-3 days later hunting with...
Was out Tuesday playing with some different settings on a machine. Went off to an area I had not visited in a while. Been a while since I've seen one of these but second target out was another bird band. Around 6" or so. Reported the recovery and had the certificate the next day. The online...
Amazon sales of at max vs equinox 600 and 800
Here are some interesting stats. Keep in mind these only represent a fraction of the metal detector sales since most come through dealers outside of Amazon. As an amazon seller I have access to tools to show unit sales of most amazon items for...
