We found this cannon in a river and we hope to identify it, is it civil war era or napoleonic? Was it in a battle or on a merchant ship, as yet there are no markings but im waiting for the FLO to get in touch so i dont want to clean it too much, any help will be appreciated
Hi. I?m Bradley. I?m so green I don?t even have a metal detector. I have had cheap ones and never did anything spectacular with them. I do have access to some historic properties so I should get another. For now, just a picker, collector, enthusiast, and a fan of picking money up off the ground...
So I have this Cannonball in my possession. It’s 48.8 lbs and 8-10 inches in diameter. It has a hole on one side where somebody shoved a marble in it. Not sure if it has black powder in it or not. Anybody have any guesses at it’s worth or potential origins? I live in North Texas but it was not...
Gentlemen,
I have recently found a cannonball near the citywalls of Maastricht (the Netherlands). It weighs approx. 4.9 kg. (small bits missing), and its diameter varies between 10.2 and 10.8 cm (not sure whether this variation is due to manufacturing, or impact). The city was laid siege to by...
I have had these two cannons in my garden since moving in and was wondering if anyone knows any info about either of them. I know nothing of their history, one has the letters RGF and the year 1875 on the side and the numbers 1 30 on the top. The other one has no markings.
I've been working with the local military park and the regional archeologists. We've been out all week detecting their hiking trails. I even got to dig my first big chunk of exploded cannonball. Fun stuff.
Anyway on to the topic at hand. At one of the places I've been detecting the property...
Hello. While cleaning some of my grandfather's belongings I found what I thought was an artillery shell. Rather should I say it found me. It rolled and fell off a shelf about 12' on a concrete flooring scaring me half to death as I thought it was live. Upon no bang I went back to see it was...
I know what your thinking: Another cannonball? I sure hope so! I was just out detecting with a friend of mine on an exposed river bed in an old New England town. My buddy was detecting and got a huge signal and called me over. I figured it was junk, but he had to dig. What emerged I could...
I'm looking for some help to determine if I'm correct that this item is a toy cannon dating back I believe to the 1930's or 40's. I located a home/farmstead in Burlington, NJ, that was razed to make way for a park. The house/farm was built sometime prior to 1930 based on mapping and tax records...
found this item and 2 other iron pieces encrusted in about 2-3 inches of coral. I'd like to know what it came from as there are no documented wrecks near where i found these items. thanks
I was digging in my flowerbed and came upon an iron ball with something inside. I see no seam and there are a few small specs of green that look like the original coating. It is just a little bigger than a golfball. There is what looks to be a faint design and number or word, but I can't make it...
I bought this cannon at an antique shop. Can anyone tell me about what years it was used, if it was for land, sea, or other, and about what it is worth? The barrel is about 39 inches long, the bore is about 2 and 1/4 inches across, and the height of the wheels is about 18 inches. Thanks for...
Hi folks!
I have been in Florida on vacation detecting whenever I get the opportunity. I was excited to visit the treasure coast, because I have heard about all of the interesting finds. I wanted something interesting to take home AND hopefully I found something. I found a 4-5" half circle...
Investigating three 18th century cast-iron guns from Plymouth Sound- nice pictures! http://www.plymouthherald.co.uk/Amateur-archaeologists-shed-light-historic/story-21446004-detail/story.html
Found this on my latest excursion. It was about 4 inches, maybe 5 inches deep at the base of a ravine not far from Ball's Bluff. At first I thought it could be old pipe but there aren't any pipes in that area (heavily wooded area). Can anyone help me positively ID it as CW cannon or artillery...
I'm researching a cannon that was dumped into a bay. The cannon isn't iron but I don't know if its brass or bronze. I have a location but the water isn't clear enough to do a sight search and I suspect that it probably is buried beneath the sand. The water is less than fifteen feet deep. I need...

HELLO FORUM!
I was directed here by the WHAT IS IT? forum. My name is Charlie G. & I own Joy's House (www.joyshouse.info); a sober house for girls I opened in my daughter's memory. To help support it, I go to & bid on storage auctions (yep, like the TV ahows!), then sell the things we find at...
