Another rock someone gave my wife sometime ago when in China, my scientific scale won’t weigh it so it’s well over 2 kilos taking a rough guess I’d say about 4 kilos.
Some stones the agate mostly from China the jasper central California I believe the smaller pebbles from China but I’m not sure what they are, the rock that looks like a sun rise (or moon rise) over the mountains on a lake I think is agate from somewhere in China? I didn’t collect any of these...
I found this piece today along the Patuxent River on the southern peninsula. This spot has a lot of History. War of 1812 came ashore here and an old manor called Susquehanna was on site not far.
The piece is all stone. Agate. No holes and the sides are smooth. I’m stumped!! 😳❤️
Hi. Found this specimen in Afton Canyon, Cady Mountains, USA.
5lb at 9”x5”x2”
Not much to look at from a first glance but you can see areas of agate and minerals poking though.
I am wondering whether there is even a small chance that the agate Runs through the rock. Would it be worth...
Found this small specimen at the Lavic siding area in Barstow, CA. It looks like botryoidal agate but the growths seem to protrude further upward then what I have seen photos of online.
Where do I go? It's an age old question that is often only answered very vaguely at best. While some locations are public knowledge and common talk, actually finding them can be a different story. With that said, I created these overlays specifically for hunting Fairburn agates. Check em out if...
I was cleaning up a property and found this rock (along with some others) around the base of a tree in the front yard.
Does anyone know what type of rock this is? It was already cut as you can see in the photos.
The brown is an odd shade i haven’t seen before. Maybe an agate?
Thank you in...
Hello! This is my first post here.
So recently I was helping my mother buy a used RV from a resale lot somewhere on the Georgia/Tennessee state line. We'd been to so many places that day I honestly can't remember everywhere we went I can't remember the name of the place I got these rocks but...
Hi! So I've been finding these really cool and colorful rocks in eastern WY that are unlike anything I've seen before. Has anyone else? There are obvious fossils in what I think is a form of chalcedony (jasper?) but then there are also these little clear crystal agate pockets. The fossils look...
Hey y'all, I was wondering if anyone has ever seen anything like these "meteorite" agates before. I have my own theories as to how they could be formed like that, but I'm curious what other people think. They certainly are unique! What do you think they are and what kind of processes made them...
Been Agate hunting a long time and my in law found this on accident this summer while digging a fountain in his yard thought you guys would enjoy

I don't post much here anymore because I am so busy, but I thought I'd share some cool finds so far this year. I am a dealer in Japan and come back to California to dig & buy every 2 months.

Please help!
A year ago I moved to Maine because I love beachcombing for seaglass. However, now I find myself obsessed with rocks, and I can’t stop bringing them home. Unfortunately I know little about them. I have read online, and looked at pictures and I’m just not getting the answers I...
Hello! I am hoping someone here can help me identify a rock? that I have. It belongs to a friend who believes it to be agate. To me, it looks like someone had playdough and crumpled it up in their hand and left it to get hard. It has the perfect shape and placement of where fingers would be...
I recently went to Michigan and went agate hunting. I found this nice purple laker. This was my first rock hunting expedition so I am not familiar with rocks or minerals. Could someone tell me what this rock is made of or called. Does it have any value? It weighs 10.5 ounces. Also should I cut...

Hey all,
I'm new to this site, just joined because I have a question.. There is an old man here in my town in Rural America, who has been rockhounding since the age of "6" and will be 87 this fall. Unfortunately, his health has taken a turn and he'll be moving into a home here shortly. I fear...
Hello TN!
Me and my friend are taking a road trip from Michigan to Tennessee and Kentucky. We will be staying in the Gatlinburg area but are looking for some places to rockhound nearby. Does anyone know of any good spots?
We have a pretty wide radius that we'd be willing to travel. I'll...
This is a reply to the post: http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/what/550578-agate.html
Long story short, I found some possible agates in a place in Michigan with is the geological equivalent of vanilla ice cream (quartz is a rare find).
I also found them in a rather high volume, and returned to...
I found these amazing rocks in a stream near my house. The problem is, I live in an area where agates are NOT found ever that I know of, and they were all found within 400 feet of each other (I found 4 specimens all roughly baseball sized). I live in southeastern Michigan but Lake Superior...
I've been googling the crap out of rockhounding sites around South Dakota, but have been having trouble finding sites that aren't so "remote". I'll be driving out west in a Mini-Van in a few weeks, so I'm hesitant to visit sites that require traversing miles and miles of unpaved dirt road.
I...
This is my first post here, my hobbies include Magic the gathering, pokemon cards, collectables, and finding treasure in all it's forms, I'd like to get more into the metal detecting stuff in the future, but for the past 20 or so years I just find cool stuff wherever I can, and do my best to...
I work for USGS, but am not a geologist. However, my 14-year old son and I have suddenly been bitten by the collecting bug. We live in South Dakota, full of geologic wonders, but live on the far eastern edge of the state. Nonetheless, in the last few weeks, we've discovered the wonderful agate...
I'm a newbie rockhound having recently moved to Miami Arizona. I found this rock in Globe AZ. It's very hard. The porous side a file will hardly touch. It's approx. 6" x 4" x 4". Any help as to it's nature and value is very much appreciated. thanks
I found this the other day while looking in a pile of rock. The reddish inclusions with White banding look like this might be a Moss Agate but I am unsure. There is a section that is clearly quartz with a light purple tint to it but I am wondering what the rest of the body is. Any help would be...
I am looking for classification of these two rocks I found on a recent trip to South Dakota. I am wondering if these are Fairburn Agates or something else. Any help would be appreciated!
Found this last night just before the sun went down. Its weird transparency is interesting to say the least? Anybody have info? I would appreciate any comments or input!
Thought it was just fire agate but when polishing with a steel brush under water the fire agate has a metallic luster??? Has anyone ever seen something like this before??
Found this about ten years ago in a mole hill, a couple miles away from where the Cowlitz River spills into the Columbia River. It's extremely small, and as you can see it is an agate. I imagine it was probably used to hunt small game due to its small size. I don't have any idea on the age, and...
I finally made a stand I think fits my favorite sphere. The stand is Magnesium slag with a Hematite pendant glued to the front. The sphere is Basalt/Agate.

I found this giant in Lake Michigan today in South Haven, MI area. It seems to be similar to agatized sponges I've found in material, but not in look. I think this ones pretty cool. Haven't cut into it yet...Any ideas what it is?
This morning before we got started working on the Jeep.. (had a few things I needed to take care of, Like sell our back seat and the seat belts) Our community was having it's bi-yearly yard sale and we would walk the neighborhood.
I'm sure most of you are aware of what many of these items are...
