A little later than Plato, but in the 60s Donovan had a take on Atlantis:

The polar mission was eventually declassified, then documented in a book published in 1994, World in Peril, The Origin, Mission, and Scientific Findings of the 46th/72nd Reconnaissance Squadron, written by Ken White, who was the son of the mission's commander, Major Maynard E. White. It's 47 chapters, about 300 pages, filled with facts, photos, political history, personnel records and reminisces, and lots of information and details concerning the mission's solutions to problems dealing with the extreme climate. Of interest to this thread are Chapters 27 (Terrestrial Magnetism Studies), 28 (Clues to a Cataclysm), 29 (Polar Wander), and 30 (The Flip of the Earth). It's a free pdf download for those who are interested.
sdcfia, I am interested, but was unable to find a pdf or a copy in an online library. Where did you find the pdf?
Thanks
Here is an article about magnetic empaths. It seems possible that such people would have been very valuable to an exploration expedition.

But can they determine True North in their heads?
Harbour Island and Davis Island are the two parts of Atlantis, which rose as Cayce predicted. They are in Downtown Tampa. Up until 1921 they were known as Little Grassy Island and Big Grassy Island. In 1921, a hurricane left both islands under water. Then in 1926, D.P. Davis took over the Grassy Islands. That is when they became Davis Islands. At that time, Little Grassy Island was only a hill surrounded by a mudflat. Sometime later, they dredged the channels surrounding the two islands and used the material to build them up to become Harbour Island and Davis Island. Edgar Cayce’s dates are correct; Between 1968 and 1969, the rising of the two islands took place in Tampa Bay.
If we look back at Plato’s story, we will find that this is where Poseidon raised his family. During Poseidon’s time, this area must have been called Poseidia. According to Plato, this small island was the island of Atlantis, which Cayce called Poseidia. Follow this link to see the two portions of Atlantis that rose again. Between 68 and 69 the two islands became useful, functional, residential islands again:
