Tonight I went back to the site where I found the Draped Bust at yesterday. I could not believe the change in the vegetation in only 24 hours! It filled in quite a bit! Time is running out to get to these spots before it becomes impenetrable. It was quiet today at first, with no signals but deep iron. After around an hour I got a solid mid range signal that usually means a button. Sure enough it was a two piece. I could make out the two beasts, but had no idea what it was at the time. It was later after a good treatment with Aluminum Jelly that it became apparent that it was a Pennsylvania National Guard button. I can't make out the backmark yet and will have to do more investigating to identify it.
It was a while before I dug any other targets but then got a nice hit and dug what I think is a wax seal. The letter "A" seems to match the "A" in the Artillery button, so I think it may be an artillery unit seal for official use.
I was getting ready to call it quits with only the two finds and another watch winder, when I got a shallow mid range hit. At first I thought it was a coin but then I was amazed to see "REGt" and the silver! A rare 15th Regiment officer's button! A few minutes later and I dug the 3rd Regiment button! I thought it was a match to the 2nd Regiment button I found a few weeks back but was surprised to see the "3". About two feet away I got another button hit, and then another and another! At least two of these buttons were at the bottom of previously dug plugs. Either someone abandoned the hole without finding what was in it, or they thought it was junk and threw it back in. It could even have been me, back when I originally hit the site around 10 years back!
This was undoubtedly my best outing since March 8th 2011!
