Well, it rained all night last night, but stopped by early morning so my dad-in-law Ken and I went back to the same estate house property that we hit yesterday morning when I found the 1908S Indian Head I posted about yesterday. We spent a couple of hours slip sliding away in all of the mud from the construction work and re-landscaping going on at the property, but we came away with a few more good finds.
I am amazed that we still have not found a silver coin at this property though. We've spent over 4 hours there in total, and this was a huge mansion on an upscale main street in an upscale neighborhood. Weird.
Anyways, Ken and I both got an indian head today. He beat me by two years with a 1890, but here is my 1892...
Then I spent the next 90 minutes or so finding these clad coins...
Then I got a solid hit about 5 inches deep, and out came a large dark coin, and I was sure I'd found my first large cent (I REALLY want to find one of these!!!). I couldn't recognize the front of the coin at all, and it was covered in mud so I went over to a puddle to rinse it off. Diez Centavos from 1959, which was the last thing I would expect to find here. No silver coins, but I find a 10 centavos mexican coin?...
OK. So I like to dream, and if you are going to dream then dream big, right? I got a solid penny/dime reading at 4 inches, but didn't find anything down at 5 inches. I stuck the bullseye in the hole, and it buzzed right in the middle, so I went down about another inch, and out came a very big round domed thing that had some markings on the front. In my dream I had found a military belt plate of some sort, but when I rinsed the mud off of this item, I woke up and realized I had what is probably a pocket watch case front...
The makers mark on the backside says PHILADELPHIA and W.C. & Co. Does anyone know what company made this?...
Finally, Ken found a small buckle of some sort that I was hoping someone here could help identify. It has two very tiny stars on it, one on either side of the three bars in the middle, and it has a bit of scrollwork on the top and bottom edges...
And here is the rest of the stuff I found. I wish the toy gun was more intact. I found it right near where I found the Junior Police badge yesterday, and I can imagine a kid wearing the badge and shooting his cap pistol in his front yard many decades ago...
