thought the same thing....there was a good bit of trapping over on the St. John River in eastern Orange County, back in the day.

Not sure from the pic, but congrats on the interesting find!

Looks like the end of a cow tie chain. It would have a ring farther back that the end would fit into to make a loop around the cows neck and the other end was fastened to the feed trough to hold the cow while milking.
