This was basically what we call a blind hunt as this field had no archie intel & no crop-marks to speak of. However, I've been eyeing this field whilst going to work for awhile only because it has light sandy soil. In our area, this is reason enough for me to go house knocking to find the owner. I did this awhile back & last week we finally signed the contract they wanted & we have been granted permission for this field alone to see how we get on for a couple of months.
I was hoping this was farmed in Ancient times, but being a flood plain I knew it would not have been settled on & at the very least I thought it would have been farmed in the Medieval period, so I thought a hammered was likely. How right can you be.:laughing7: Sometimes, when your hot, there is just 1 way to go, get hotter......
I had mis-heard them & it only had a 12" plough, which is still the deepest plough they do around here. I named it the Potato Field as its the only one around that we have hunted.
6 Hours;

My first drone (funny thing is we had our first question on 'do you use drones' from this owner, & now we can say 'we just find them on your land, first time out!')

you never cease to amaze me with things that I can only dream of. Have you ever tried an HF coil? I know that you kill it with the 11" and you are still using the 3.1 version. I know that the 54 Khz finds some pretty small and deep stuff. But, why mess with what ain't broke. you totally kill it my friend.

I'm still on 3.2 for that reason.
I've been toying with the idea of the HF & 4.0 but I think it would only give minimal impact. I already find pinhead size pieces of lead with the 11" coil, can't think of finding much smaller.

Incredible hunt
One for the books
Congrats

What a huge Silver! Unbelievable it's not bend or broken. Sometimes the stars are in alignment. :hello2:

This hunt probably will stick pretty good in the memory banks. I used to be able to visual where every good find came from, ie. where in each field. Now we have so many great days, its getting harder to remember them!
Although not a bad problem that I'm going to complain on....

We only have 5 other Hammered Shillings in the collection & it feels like a very long time ago that we last got one. I sniffed this one out, having found a Tudor button, I doubled back on a good looking area. We gridded & found 2 more hammered in that general area, but spread out.

I just can't believe that you find soo much sometimes when you're hunting! If I would just find one of those items on a short hour hunt it would be a quite alright hunt but you find so much more than I ever could in such a short period/time! I'm just wondering is there any techniques on how you find so much items or is it just the luck and location?

slow precision gridding

We hoped it would be good because of the sandy soil, most of the land is heavy clay, so it is all about the location. We get so much because we are quick to get in all the trash & finds in the pouch in less than 30 seconds after the first beep. It's all about finding the hotspots in a big field then gridding it out.

Wow. Stellar ... even by U.K. folks standards I am sure.

Well done.

Wow, what a great hunt! I love those medieval hammereds!

Wow those are some beautiful coins.

Congratulations

You were busy. Must be tired after all that digging. Congratulations on all those nice finds.

Even though I've only dug a small number of medieval coins from a few years ago, there are few things which will put a smile on my face such as finds as those. Congratulations on some amazing coin & relic finds and as always, thanks for sharing.

If you hadn’t gotten a banner for that Celtic gold, last week, then you might be eligible for a banner this week. I don’t think they let you have but one banner at a time. That is a heck of a problem to have sir.

Big congrats to you and dad on the stunning finds.
