Slow day detecting in the woods, so I stopped at a 1940's bottle dump I found a few months back. Didn't find any unbroken bottles, but I did find a cool relic. It's a Sterling silver WWII combat infantryman badge. Can't believe someone would throw it in the trash. Based on what I read, it's a very prestigious award.

The badges I saw online were blue, but this one is white. Maybe the white is a base coat and the blue top coat washed off over the last 70 years. Very cool find, even though I hit it with my digger and one of the pins is broken off.

Here's a few pics:

Lost - now it's found, it's a very nice keeper. Congrats

That's a cool relic, my dad had one from ww2

Awesome save!!! The CIB I am sure was hard earned, I tip my hat to those who have earned it.

That's awesome, I search the areas around Fort Benning and I have found many buttons and badges dating back to WW I. None silver though that's awesome!.....and the blue is the infantry color. Haven't looked into the older ones but currently there is blue on them. I knew they made some things of silver, but not all...I really like this. I was fortunate enough to find a sterling army ring dating to WWII.

Very nice badge.
Nice save

Hello FBT. Excellent find and you could still wear that thing! It is great finding military items especially the silver variety.

Thanks for the post and Good Luck out there. C9

Whoa, crazy that got chucked. Nice recovery!
Yep definitely chucked because the "damnits" are still on the pins.

Just what I've learned to call them....damn it I lost one.

Thanks, guys! It was bad enough to throw away anything Sterling silver, but to toss a military badge in the trash is unforgivable. Hopefully, it was an accident and they regretted doing it...

Nice find, congratulations! :icon_thumright:
